Chapter 02
In the deep winter, the wind was biting cold.
Even the heater in the nanny car could not warm Su Liâs slightly chilled heart.
She was still a little afraid.
But then she thought about itâhis life was already counting down. What tricks could he possibly play?
Su Li steadied herself and sent a message to Lu Jing, telling her to stay calm.
The car stopped at the largest entertainment club in Nine Cities.
The driver opened the door for her. His movements were respectful enough, but there was no real respect in his attitude.
Su Li got out of the car. The man walked ahead of her.
They passed through a dazzling corridor and stopped at the innermost room. The double doors were pushed open. The man stepped aside. âMr. Mo, sheâs here.â
After saying that, he signaled for her to go in.
Su Li was already like an arrow on the stringâshe had no choice but to shoot.
Since she was already here, she walked in calmly.
The door behind her closed.
In the closed space, tension filled the air. It felt thin, and her heartbeat was especially strong at this moment.
Her eyes swept across the room.
There was a person sitting on the sofa inside.
He sat with one leg crossed over the other, leaning back into the leather sofa. From a distance, she could not see clearly.
A faint red glow flickered in the dark room. The smell of tobacco lingered lightly in the air.
Su Li took a deep breath and walked closer, finally seeing his face clearly.
He was not photogenic.
In person, he looked much better than in photos. The only difference was that his face was paler than in the pictures.
The collar of his black shirt was slightly open, revealing his throat and collarbone, which looked especially attractive.
The sickly pale color made his sharp and delicate features look even more refined and almost feminine.
But he looked energetic. He did not seem like someone who was terminally ill.
With this face alone, many women would probably want to have his child.
When she walked closer, Su Li noticed that he was holding a marriage certificate.
Yes, the one his mother had taken away at that time.
After arranging a marriage certificate for her son, it was impossible that she would not let him know.
Trying to hide from him had been naive.
âHave you never heard that people die for money?â Mo Xingyuan stared at the woman in front of him.
A woman who married him at a time like thisâwhat else could she want besides money?
Su Li knew she could not avoid this. His words were clearly reminding her that seeking money could cost her life.
So she simply went all out. She curled her lips into a charming smile. âWhy canât it be that I admire you? Maybe marrying you was something I planned for a long time.â
Mo Xingyuan tightened his fingers around the cigarette.
Planned for a long time⌠There had been such people before, but not at a time like this.
He could see through Su Liâs lies and fake smile at a glance.
He stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray. His long fingers came together as he gestured for her to come closer.
Su Li swallowed lightly and stepped nearer.
Mo Xingyuan lowered his leg, sat up straight, and suddenly grabbed her wrist. With a strong pull, he dragged her into his arms.
Caught off guard, Su Li fell against him, then was pushed to sit upright.
Her waist tightenedâhis palm pressed against it.
Even through her coat, the place he touched felt slightly hot.
Without giving her any time to react, he lifted her chin with the marriage certificate. His deep eyes were full of mockery. âYou admire me?â
Su Liâs heart beat faster, but her face remained calm. The edge of the certificate scraped her chin uncomfortably, yet she looked directly into his eyes. âProbably all the unmarried women in Nine Cities admire you.â
âHeh.â
Mo Xingyuan let out a cold laugh. âYouâre not afraid of death?â
âI am.â
He raised an eyebrow.
Su Li spoke seriously, âEveryone dies sooner or later. If I can be husband and wife with someone I admire before death, then Iâll have no regrets.â
Four words appeared in Mo Xingyuanâs mind: complete nonsense.
He pushed her away forcefully and even patted the leg she had sat on. His disgust was obvious.
âDivorce.â
Su Li steadied herself. Looking at the marriage certificate he had thrown aside, she remained calm. âThereâs a one-month cooling-off period for divorce.â
Mo Xingyuan lifted his eyes. âDo you think I need that?â
