Episode 30: Ropal Wizard Association
âIt looks even more suspicious if we try to hide. Whoâs in that carriage? Blay? Lydia?â
âNo, it looks like Rosenblu.â
Rosenblu Elfenbaumâand if memory served, the one riding next to him was probably Blayra.
âThen letâs just move our carriage back so they can pass through.â
âYes, understood.â
âWow, you donât know Master Elfenbaum?â
âYou keep forgettingâIâm the head of the Attila family.â
âThey say the Elfenbaum people are ridiculously good-looking. What are they like in person?â
âIâm better-looking than that flashy guy Blay. You should be admiring your own master, not himâŚâ
âUgh, I really should stop talking.â
As Leonard suggested, Baron moved the carriage to the side of the main road. Cordeliaâs heart pounded as she waited for the Elfenbaum party to pass by.
And they certainly didnât disappoint.
She didnât need anyone to tell her who Elfenbaum was.
A black-haired man riding a magnificent white horseâhe was without a doubt the most strikingly handsome man Cordelia had ever laid eyes on. Even from a distance, he radiated a magnetic aura.
His blue eyes, deep as sapphires, shimmered with an otherworldly beautyâso much so that words failed to capture their brilliance.
Cordelia couldnât close her mouth the entire time Elfenbaum and his entourage rode past. Leonard glanced at her and said,
âYour jawâs about to hit the ground.â
âWow, wow⌠How can someone look like that? Who is he? Blay?â
âRosenblu Elfenbaum. Current head of the Elfenbaum family.â
âWhat a cool nameâŚâ
âHave you completely lost your mind? Wouldnât you faint just looking at my face?â
âMaster, letâs be real. No matter who else is around, I canât pretend you compare. Letâs give credit where itâs due.â
âI told you heâs not as handsome as me!â
âThere he goes again.â
If he didnât brag every five minutes, it felt like thorns would grow in his mouth.
Naturally, Cordelia ignored his absurd claims and continued staring dreamily at Rosenbluâs retreating figure.
Landes, a sizable port city in the Ershe region, was filled with big, comfortable inns. As soon as Cordelia finished unpacking, she grinned and handed Leonard a thick stack of completed homework.
âIâm done!â
âWhat? I gave this to you just last night. You already finished all of it?â
âCan I go out now? I stayed up all night so I could explore the city.â
âTake Veluce with you.â
âAww… do I have to go with Veluce?â
Cordeliaâs voice dropped. Leonardâs knight, who basically worshipped him, would definitely nag her the whole time and lecture her if she even suggested stepping out alone.
âVeluce is out dealing with the carriage. Itâll take him a while to get back.â
âWhen is he coming?â
âTwo or three hours at most.â
At that, Cordeliaâs shoulders slumped. She glanced up at Leonard with wide, pleading eyes.
âCanât I just go alone? Iâll take Lottie with me.â
âThat dog would be the first to run off if someone tried to rob you.â
Unfortunately, Cordelia couldnât deny that. Lottie had treated her like a glorified food dispenser this entire trip.
âAnd where exactly would you go alone? In Rande, a woman walking around by herself usually means sheâs been kidnapped or ransomed.â
âIs it really that dangerous? This cityâs pretty bigâŚâ
âItâs the same everywhere under Lopezâs rule. Their idea of security is simple: only the strong survive.â
âLopez? Oh, right. This is that bearâs territory.â
âIf you absolutely insist on going out, wait until Veluce comes back.â
âBy then the sun will be setting. And weâre catching a boat to Willas tomorrow morning, right?â
Normally, Cordelia wouldâve backed down at this point. But today, she stood firm.
So far, sheâd only ever traveled in a carriage or been cooped up at the innâeither doing homework or sleeping. She hadnât once properly seen the world outside.
âThen Iâll go with Baron.â
âSorry, Iâve got other things to do. How about you go out with your master, hmm?â
âOh! Thatâd be perfect!â
âWhat? Why me?â
âIâll go with you! Iâll even buy you something tasty.â
ââTastyâ? What exactly…?â
âIâm heading to your lab to grab some supplies. I want to help lift the barrier in Deloranaâs territory! Please come with me! I wanna see the city! Pleaaaase!â
Leonard frowned at her whining tantrum but eventually gave in and stood up from his seat.
âFine. Two hours, tops.â
âYay! Master is the best!â
Grinning from ear to ear, Cordelia grabbed her pouch full of 100 ET coins and tugged on Leonardâs sleeve.
âLetâs go, letâs go!â
âI already saidââ
âHave fun,â Baron called after them.
The two of them stepped into the bustling streets of Rande. Cordelia couldnât take her eyes off the unfamiliar sightsâeverything felt brand-new.
âWhat are you staring at?â
âEverything! Lookâthe women here wear scarves instead of hats! And the groundâs dirt, not stone! And that weird smell from the seaâitâs all amazing!â
She laughed and chattered like a child, even buying a rose from a flower girl and tucking it into her hair.
Leonard thought her excitement was over-the-top and asked bluntly, âHavenât you traveled before?â
âHave you ever been to Vasquez?â
âWhy would I go there?â
âExactly. Nobody goes to Vasquez unless they live there. Itâs just cliffs, snow-covered mountains, and Eliamâs territory.â
ââŚTrue.â
âAnd I lived there my whole life. Even after I got married. Abrams wasnât much different from Vasquez.â
She turned to look directly at him.
âThatâs why Iâm grateful. You saved me from that place. I thought Iâd die there.â
âYou donât exactly treat me with reverence, though.â
âYouâre more respectful to me than my own father ever was. What more can you expect?â
Cordelia burst out laughing. Leonard found himself unable to look away from her.
Sunlight streamed down across the bridge of her nose, bright and warm.
âOh! Food stalls! Letâs go! Iâm buying everything!â
âFine, fine. Letâs go.â
Cordelia started nodding off while still holding her spoon. Before her head could hit the table, Leonard quickly reached out and caught her.
âIf youâre that tired, stop eating and go to bed.â
âUgh. OkayâŚâ
After pulling an all-nighter, then exploring the streets from morning till dusk, it was no wonder she was exhausted.
Cordelia yawned and stood, leaving her plate half-full.
âIâm going to sleep.â
Lottie trotted after her.
Leonard watched closely, just in case she tripped climbing the stairs. When she stumbled once, he instinctively moved from his seat.
âSheâs your first disciple. No wonder youâre attached,â Baron said quietly.
ââŚAttached?â
âTo a wizard, a disciple is like a child born from the heart. Itâs only natural, especially with your first.â
Leonard leaned back, finally taking his eyes off the stairs.
âI felt the same. And Cordeliaâs a quick learnerâitâs rewarding to teach her.â
âWhatâs your point?â
âIâm saying⌠donât get too attached. Not if you still plan to get your body back.â
âI told youâIâm not doing that.â
Leonardâs face hardened at the mention of the subject.
âMasterââ
âEven if I used Cordelia as a medium, it wouldnât work. Am I supposed to gamble on something so unstable?â
âThereâs no other way. If we combine my magic with the relicââ
âWhat could your weak magic possibly add? Donât spout nonsense. Soul transfer magic isnât like lighting a candle.â
Leonard shook his head. It wasnât just affectionâhe knew even with Baronâs power and the relic combined, it wasnât enough.
Just then, Veluce returned with groceries.
âI stocked up on dry food. Rande really has everything.â
âThanks, Veluce.â
âAnd the carriage?â
âI removed the emblem and sold it on the black market.â
âWell done.â
âWhat were you talking about? I heard something about soul transfer magic.â
Veluce frowned, already aware of Leonardâs situation from Baronâs earlier explanation.
âI was saying we could use Cordelia as a medium.â
âBaronââ
âThat girl? How?â
âShe has the perfect body to receive magic. If I pour all of my magic and the relicâs power into her, roughlyââ
CRASH!
Every dish on the table shattered. Baron had spilled food all over himself.
Thankfully, it was late at night and no one else was around on the first floor of the inn.
Leonard stared silently at Baron. Baron immediately shut his mouth and bowed.
ââŚIâm sorry.â
âItâs late. Go to bed. Weâve got a long road ahead.â
Leonard left first, and the other two remained silent, heads bowed, until he disappeared into his room.

*sigh* Chapters 30 and 31 are reversed.
â
The conversation between Baron and Veluche/Belluche at the beginning of the chapter is a bit of a mess. Iâm guessing the MTL got confused as to the subjects of the discussion and made incorrect guesses, given the issues such as Cordelia being referred to as either Baron or Belluche/Velucheâs disciple.
â
âWell *you* never explained it to me. You always act like Iâm stupid for not knowing things you havenât taught me!â
I really enjoy this criticism she makes. Itâs something heâs bad about, and itâs genuinely something you see in real life. Plus, you know, they have great banter.
â
âCordelia inwardly screamed, *Itâs a talking rabbit! A talking rabbit!,* but kept her face calm.
Adore this. XD
