I woke up to the unpleasant feeling of my whole body being soaked. My head was pounding—must’ve hit it somewhere—and on top of that, sharp pain shot through my limbs from what felt like broken bones.

Gritting my teeth, I forced my upper body up.

I should rest a bit, recover my strength, and then think things over—

A familiar girl came running at full speed and threw herself at me in a hug.

…It hurts like hell though…

“I’m so glad—you’re alive! You’re not dead! I’m sorry, I never thought a simple wild vegetable gathering request would turn into something like this!”

Yuki spoke through tears, her face all scrunched up.

…I see…

“So… I haven’t grown enough for you to trust me not to die, huh.”

I’ll just have to work harder—so next time, I can handle even gathering quests alone.

“N-no! That’s not what I meant at all! Ah… well, that’s just like you, Hiroyuki-san. Anyway, let’s go home—to Slow Village! …Huh? Where are the other two?”

“…I don’t know.”

In this line of work—being an adventurer—death isn’t rare.
The fact that I’m still alive right now is a miracle in itself… Yuki didn’t press the matter any further.
