But what he thought didn’t really matter — what mattered was what Lu Li thought.

He already knew that Mu Wanwan was working at M·E Magazine, yet he could still keep his cool and not rush over to confront her. That was beyond his expectations.

Lu Li’s brows furrowed slightly. “You seem awfully free, huh?”

Sensing danger, Huo Zheng quickly waved his hands. “No, no, I’m busy — super busy.”

“Then why are you still here?”

“I’m leaving right now.”
With quick wits, Huo Zheng jumped to his feet and slipped away. Within seconds, he was gone without a trace.

Lu Li tapped lightly on the tabletop, his gaze falling on the bracelet around his wrist — the depths of his eyes dark and unreadable.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

Mu Wanwan stepped out of the car and saw Yin Bing and Chen Yi waiting at the entrance of Lu Corporation. She quickened her pace up the steps.

“Wanwan-jie, we just got here too,” Chen Yi said with a smile.

Mu Wanwan looked up at the bustling lobby inside and felt a surge of nervousness in her chest. “Let’s go.”

Yin Bing and Chen Yi followed behind her. It was their first time visiting Lu Corporation, so naturally, curiosity got the better of them — they couldn’t help sneaking glances around.

Yu Yang, having received instructions earlier, was already waiting downstairs. His eyes swept over the work badges hanging from Yin Bing and Chen Yi’s necks before turning his attention to Mu Wanwan.

“Excuse me, are you the deputy editor-in-chief of M·E Magazine?” he asked politely.

Mu Wanwan nodded. “Hello, I’m Mu Wanwan, deputy editor-in-chief of M·E Magazine.”

After confirming her identity, Yu Yang couldn’t help but look at her with a trace of curiosity. His boss had personally requested that M·E Magazine’s deputy editor conduct the interview — so this was what she looked like in person.

Could it be that his boss actually had feelings for this girl?

Suppressing his curiosity, Yu Yang smiled politely. “Miss Mu, our president is waiting for you upstairs. Please, follow me.”

Mu Wanwan responded with a soft “mm.” Hearing that the president was waiting for her made her palms start to sweat.

The elevator chimed with a “ding” as it stopped at the top floor.

The corridor was wide, bright — and eerily quiet.

Yin Bing and Chen Yi trailed beside Mu Wanwan, walking more softly than usual, as if afraid to disturb the silence.

Yu Yang led the way and brought them into the reception room.

“Miss Mu, please wait here for a moment. I’ll go inform President Lu.”

“Thank you,” Mu Wanwan said politely.

Yu Yang instructed a secretary to serve them coffee before heading toward Lu Li’s office.

“President, the people from M·E Magazine have arrived,” he reported respectfully. As he did, his eyes inadvertently caught a glimpse of the computer screen on the desk — and he froze for a second.

On the screen was a still image of Mu Wanwan entering the front doors of Lu Corporation.

That meant… from the very moment she had stepped into the building, his boss had been watching her.

“You may begin the interview,” Lu Li said coldly, closing his laptop. “Have her come alone.”

Yu Yang couldn’t make sense of his boss’s thoughts. He simply replied, “Yes, sir,” and quickly retreated.

The air pressure in that office was so heavy it was almost suffocating.

“Wanwan-jie, are you feeling okay? You look so pale,” Chen Yi asked with concern.

Now that she mentioned it, even the usually thick-skinned Yin Bing noticed that Mu Wanwan’s complexion didn’t look right. “Maybe the air conditioning’s too cold? Should I get you a cup of hot water?”

In the world of straight men, a cup of hot water cures all ailments.

“No need, I’m fine,” Mu Wanwan said with a forced smile.

Just then, Yu Yang returned.
