~Chapter 47~
My thoughts froze. I couldnât think.
But Ailins kept talking on her own, not caring about my state.
âThe Empire wants to believe that magic came from the gods,â she said.
âThey want to prove that Carpea was the chosen nation by the gods, so they can stand tall before the world.â
I barely managed to lift my head. Ailins had come close to me and was now smiling with a childlike innocence.
âBut⌠thatâs not the truth. There are no gods in this world. Magic, that damned thing, was created by a human.â
She blew across her palm.
A small breeze turned into a powerful wind, and a vivid vision appeared in front of me.
âAilinsâs influence among the people is growing every day!â
âAt this rate, sheâll steal the nation from us!â
âMagic? Thatâs just a demonic power that woman invented!â
The crowd cheered wildly as Ailins entered the palace on horseback. But it didnât take long before that cheer turned into screaming.
âAilins, confess your treason.â
Then, I saw Ailins on her knees before the Emperor, whose face was hidden behind a veil.
âIf you give up your name and surrender, we will make you an eternal hero.â
Suddenly, Ailinsâs face in the vision jumped out at me.
âThisâthis was the result of everything!â
ââŚâ
âI was sealed inside Dremokan, and now they use me like a battery, draining my magic for peopleâs comfort!â
Ailins grabbed my shoulders and shook me hard.
âAnd now, theyâre so afraid Iâll gain my name again that they even hid the existence of Dremokan and made a whole new religion!â
She laughed like sheâd gone mad.
And in that moment, I realized somethingâ
The curse of Dremokan was real.
Its depth was far beyond anything I could imagine.
The Imperial family clearly knew Ailins would resent Roygin for what happened.
âŚAnd yet they still handed her over to my grandfather.
Ailins finally stopped laughing and let go of me, her voice sharp and sarcastic.
âYou just compared your misfortune to my tragedy, didnât you?â
âI didnât,â I said quietly.
What good is it to compare pain? It changes nothing.
I tightly closed my eyes.
ââŚIf I made a promise to you, that must mean there’s a way to end your tragedy, right?â
âYeah, thatâs right,â Ailins said, shrugging lightly.
âBut before that, Iâve got something Iâm curious about.â
âGo ahead. Iâll answer honestly.â
âYou knew I wasnât the real Bianca. How?â
She fell silent.
But from her pause, I already had a feelingâ
My reincarnation or possession wasnât just some coincidence.
Ailins frowned and struggled to find the words, opening and closing her mouth several times.
âYou know, I really hated Bluea.â
Her words suddenly carried weight, making my grip tighten.
âIf Carpea had lost the Mage War, I wouldâve been free.â
ââŚ!â
âBut Bluea and Harness ruined everything.â
I had something to say to that.
The Magic War had lasted ten years and cost countless lives. Even now, the Empire still carries the pain of that war.
But I couldnât say that to Ailins, someone who had been drained of her magic for countless years.
No. I couldnât.
âItâs karma. Thatâs why I donât regret anything.â
But⌠was that really karma?
âŚNo matter how hard I thought about it, I couldnât figure out what exactly my grandfather had done wrong.
Maybe Iâm just being selfish.
âThen one day, I met Bianca.â
She mustâve meant the original Bianca.
âIt was a coincidence, really.â
âŚCoincidence?
Didnât they meet in Dremokan?
Her wording was vague, but I decided to let her continue.
âShe told me something,â Ailins said.
âShe said there was a boy who hated her⌠but she wished he would like her someday. That it had been her long-time wish.â
…No way.
As if confirming my suspicion, Ailins gave a deep smile.
âShe asked me if I was a mage, and when I said yes, she begged me to grant her wish.â
â…And what did you do?â
âOf course, I ignored her. But as you can see, my body is already being dragged around by magic against my will.â
A wave of anxiety washed over me.
âMagic mustâve wanted to fulfill her wish. But Bianca died not long after⌠and then you entered her body.â
ââŚâ
âSo? Do you think her wish came true?â
I couldnât answer.
Because if I did, it meant I could understand Ricardo.
Ailins lifted the corner of her mouth like she could already see the answer in my silence.
âYeah. It was just Biancaâs obsession.â
âŚSo you’re telling me that I ended up in this world just because of that?
Everything I couldnât understand about himâIt all made sense now.
Because of something so small, like wanting to be loved by someoneâŚ
All the things I had struggled through suddenly felt meaningless.
I felt like I could collapse at any moment, but I barely held myself together.
âWhy me?â I asked.
âIt was an accident. So thereâs no reason. You just had bad luck.â
That was something I had told myself so many times before. But hearing it from someone else made it sound even more cruel.
âMaybe⌠youâve been cursed worse than Bluea.â
âŚI came here to break Grandpaâs curse, but I ended up learning an even darker truth.
Iâd always wondered why.
What great reason justified everything I was going through?
But now that I knew, not even a bitter laugh would come out.
âBut you donât need to worry. Thereâs a way,â Ailins said.
ââŚHaha. Thatâs a relief.â
Even I didnât know what I was going to say next, so I just forced a laugh. Hoping it would make me feel even a little better.
Ailins lightly chuckled and tapped her chains with her fingers.
âIf my seal is broken, itâll be fine.â
How is that connected
âAll the magic thatâs been used recklessly without my consentâIf I get my name back, that magic will return to its original place.â
I blinked, stunned.
Ailins spread her arms proudly.
âThe world will fall into chaos. Iâve been stuck here for a long, long time, and a lot of magic has been used.â
ââŚâ
âYou entering this world? That will be undone too. Like nothing ever happened.â
That was what Iâd wanted so desperately.
But if her seal is broken, the world might truly fall apart.
I didnât even want to imagine it.
ââŚAnd after that?â
âHm? What do you mean?â
âWhen the seal is brokenâthere must be something you want to do most, right?â
As soon as I finished speaking, Ailinsâs face turned cold.
âI donât know what youâre trying to say.â
âI-itâs just a question! You said youâd answer anything I askâŚâ
Her sudden seriousness made me shrink back.
âYou already know, donât you?â
ââŚâ
âWhat Iâd want to do first.â
Yeah, I did know.
If I just listened to her words, it wasnât hard to guess what would happen next.
âŚMost likely, revenge.
But what scared me was that I had no idea just how far her revenge would go.
âIf Iâm unsealed, Bluea will be healed. Heâll get the peaceful death you wanted for him!â
Ailins started listing things she thought I wanted.
But all of them would mean nothing⌠if I returned home.
After a long pause, I asked:
âWhat exactly do I have to do?â
âNothing.â
That was an unexpected answer.
No, I had heard that before.
âNo matter what you learn from now on, donât do anything.â
Thatâs what Brandon said too.
Oh the story took a while turn! Whatâs even going on đĽš
Whole*
Right?!
oh it dark. anyway, original bianca was kinda pitiful tho. her wish was granted but she’s die.
Oh manâŚ.. this is weirdly interesting
