~Chapter 100~Â
âI wonder if Idette is still at the Magic Tower.â
Thankfully, I still had a favor she owed me, so that gave me a good excuse. It wouldâve been awkward to ask to meet her father out of nowhere otherwise.
While lost in thought, I arrived at my destinationâand was surprised.
âThis isâŚâ
It was the cafĂŠ I had once visited with Ricardo, the one we had meant to come back to but never did.
âBianca!â
Just then, I heard Leonâs voice behind me.
âOh, Leon.â
âYou didnât wait long, did you?â
âI just got here.â
He sighed in relief at my words.
âGood. Then shall we go in?â
I nodded quietly and followed him inside.
Last time, this cafĂŠ was full of people. Now, it was surprisingly quiet. It was hard to believe it was the same place.
âI couldnât just forget what happened last timeâI wanted to properly thank you.â
âOh, come on. No need for that between us.â
âStill⌠I always feel like Iâm the one being helped by you. I wanted to return the favor.â
Then, he went ahead and ordered every dessert I glanced at.
âW-we canât possibly eat this much!â
âItâs fine. Iâll eat plenty.â
He reassured me confidently as I panicked.
Soon after we returned to our table, a mountain of desserts arrived one after another.
To be honest, it was way too much for two people. But everything looked so pretty, it made me happy just looking at them.
âThis must be heavenâŚâ
And since this cafĂŠ was famous in the capital, the taste was incredible.
I was so focused on the desserts that I forgot we were supposed to be talking. As I ate in silence, Leon gently wiped the whipped cream off my lips.
âWant to go to the art gallery later? Might be good for digestion.â
âŚOh, right. There was an exhibition going on.
Emily had mentioned it in passingânoting that it was a popular date spot. Sheâd said, if there was someone I liked, I should definitely go with him.
âOr we can just take a walk.â
Since weâd spent so much time together, Leon already knew my preferences.
âAnything is fine.â
The things he was suggestingâan art gallery, a walkâwere all typical date ideas.
âDoes this mean Iâm actually dating Leon nowâŚ?â
Iâd never imagined that before. Honestly, I still couldnât picture it clearly.
But when I tried to imagine a future with him, I couldnât see myself being unhappy.
He was kind and one of the few people who truly understood me.
Plus, Grandpa and Cedric were both in favor of it.
The only problem wasâŚ
I didnât know what would happen to me.
I had to go back home someday.
âWhat will happen to Grandpa and Cedric thenâŚ?â
As my thoughts spiraled, the whipped cream that had tasted so sweet now felt heavy in my mouth.
I scratched my cheek awkwardly and forced a smile.
âActually, I have somewhere to be today. Can we go to the art gallery next time? Same with the walk.â
âAnytime.â
Leon was as considerate as ever, always making sure I didnât feel pressured.
âI canât treat Leon like this if I donât feel the same way.â
And besides, I had a home to return to.
âHey, LeonâŚâ
âYeah?â
I worked up the courage to say something, but hurting someone with words was never easy. I quickly drank my water instead.
âMind if I join you?â
A familiar voice interruptedâand someone sat down beside me.
âCough!â
Ricardo offered me a handkerchief with a strangely calm face.
âMy, you look quite surprised to see a familiar face.â
I couldnât respondâI was too busy choking.
Then, with an unreadable expression, he suddenly reached out and tugged on my cheek. His eyes briefly glanced at my lips before he smirked wickedly.
âYour face is red. Guess that confirms it.â
He was clearly trying to twist the situation shamelessly in his favor.
Leon let out a short laugh.
âMust be nice to have so much free time that you crash other peopleâs dates.â
His flat tone carried a faint, cold edge. Alarmed, I stepped on his foot, but he just smiled to reassure me.
âWeâre on a date. If you have something to say, come back another time.â
âOh, a date, you say?â
Ricardo tilted his head mockingly.
âHuh. I thought it was some form of food torture.â
ââŚ.â
âSeems like a harsh punishment for a delicate young lady. I mustâve missed the new definition of âdate.ââ
After I finally stopped coughing, I managed to ask,
âW-why are you here?â
Ricardoâs eyes gleamed mischievously.
âI didnât think youâd actually use the date spot I suggested. I waited patiently, you know.â
âI brought Bianca here. You donât own this cafĂŠ.â
âOh, but I do. This is my cafĂŠ.â
ââŚWhat?â
Leon and I both stared at him in confusion.
âI bought it. You got a problem with me visiting my own place?â
âW-when did youâŚ?â
He hadnât mentioned this the last time we met!
âI was going to tell you, but you never gave me the chance.â
Leon gritted his teeth and suddenly stood up.
âWow. Looks like Iâve offended the Duke. Weâll be going now. Bianca, letâs go.â
I hesitated and stood up as well, but Ricardo folded his arms.
âAfter ordering this much, youâre just going to leave?â
ââŚ.â
âItâs really disappointing when customers waste the desserts our bakery worked so hard on.â
He gestured toward the mountain of sweets on the table.
âSo? Are you planning just to stand there and eat while standing?â
âW-weâll take them to goââ
âOh dear. We donât offer takeout here.â
Ricardo smirked.
âUnfortunately, you canât leave until you finish it all.â
âThatâs ridiculous!â
âBut itâs the rule here.â
I was speechless. With my mouth still open, Ricardo placed his hand over his heart and bowed slightly.
âIâm the owner. Feel free to complain.â
What kind of cafĂŠ owner acts like this?!
Holding my forehead in disbelief, I heard Ricardoâs smug voice again.
âOr⌠would you like some help?â
ââŚWith what?â
He tilted his head like I was being silly for asking.
âIf I join you, youâll finish faster.â
I opened my mouth but couldnât form any words. Leon rubbed his face roughly with one hand.
âWhat a ridiculous excuseâŚâ
âYou seem angry. Maybe go wash your face?â
Leonâs clenched fist trembled.
âSuch generosity.â
âMy pleasure.â
Ricardo shrugged.
They were both smiling, but the tension between them was so thick I could hardly breathe.
I gulped down water to ease my dry throat, and Ricardo shot Leon a cold look.
âThis is a date? I wouldnât wish this on my worst enemy.â
âWell, now that the Duke is here, it certainly feels like torture.â
âFunny, because Bianca looked this frustrated before I even showed up.â
ââŚDid I?â
Thatâs strange. I was actually really happy just moments ago.
Ricardo tilted his head.
âYou used to smile a lot more when you were with me.â
ââŚ?â
âMuch more.â
He looked at me with a mix of frustration and concern.
âSeeing you looking so unwell now⌠of course Iâd be worried.â
Well, thatâs because of youâŚ!
