Chapter 8
Note — “Baby Fairy Princess” (2/2)
In the lounge.
When Guan Mingxian pushed open the door, he saw the man who had just finished showering. His hair was still damp, and he was standing in the corner, staring intently at a decoration without blinking.
“Brother Tan, what are you looking at?”
Tan Shen calmly shifted his gaze away.
“Nothing.”
Curious, Guan Mingxian looked over and saw a plush little fox.
Curled up on a snowy-white blanket, its fluffy tail wrapped around itself, a small yellow flower perched on its head. It lay lazily in the sunlight, eyes half-closed.
Guan Mingxian: “?”
There were so many beautiful women outside, yet he was staring at a stuffed toy fox?
The thought amused Guan Mingxian, though he didn’t dare laugh.
So he respectfully asked,
“Brother Tan, if you like it, should I ask them to take it down and give it to you?”
“No need.”
Tan Shen rejected the suggestion in his usual cool tone.
He had merely been reminded of a certain little fox.
When he left earlier, she had tilted her head up and asked, seeming a little unhappy,
“When will you come back…?”
The young lady with her hair tied into little buns wasn’t as flamboyant as usual. Instead, she looked unexpectedly soft and adorable.
Her tone reminded him of those coquettish videos she often watched, the kind he inevitably ended up seeing as well.
“Where are you going? Who are you going with? What time will you be back? And when you come back, will you still love me?”
Xie Yurao loved acting spoiled.
But she could act spoiled with anyone.
And she especially enjoyed teasing people, as though she wished everyone in the world would be bewitched by her charm and become hopelessly infatuated with her.
Unfortunately, he had no interest in indulging her.
Tan Shen cast a calm glance at the plush fox basking in the sunlight.
“No need to give it to me.”
“I don’t like it.”
“…”
For some reason, Guan Mingxian felt the room temperature drop a few degrees.
With a smile, he quickly changed the subject.
“Brother Tan, you have no idea. After the beating you gave them today, those kids will probably be too scared to come back next time.”
Tan Shen replied casually,
“Really? Then next time, you can take my place.”
Guan Mingxian: “…”
He shouldn’t have opened his mouth.
Turning around, Tan Shen returned to the sofa in the lounge.
“Fei Wen.”
Fei Wen nodded.
“Brother Tan, I’ve already looked into it. Second Young Master Xie’s return to the country this time is indeed because he’s determined to obtain the South Island Research Institute. He’s already sent people to investigate the Venus Celebration. It’s obvious he’ll try to pull some strings.”
Tan Shen sounded indifferent.
“The Venus Celebration is an international performance event. His influence doesn’t extend that far.”
Guan Mingxian raised an eyebrow.
“If he can’t interfere with the event itself, then he can only interfere with the person.”
The meaning was obvious.
Since the Xie family’s eldest daughter intended to compete with him for the research institute…
Then she was in danger.
Guan Mingxian looked toward Tan Shen.
The man’s expression remained unchanged, though shadows lingered in his eyes, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Fei Wen continued,
“With Old Master Xie around, Second Young Master Xie wouldn’t dare act too openly. Most likely, he’ll just try every possible way to ruin Miss Xie’s performance.”
Then he turned to Tan Shen and asked,
“Brother Tan, should I continue investigating?”
Continue investigating meant looking into exactly how Second Young Master Xie planned to sabotage Miss Xie.
“No need.”
Tan Shen seemed completely uninterested in the matter. His long fingers lightly rubbed the rim of his cup.
“I only need to guarantee her safety.”
“As for other people’s business, I won’t interfere.”
Cold.
Heartlessly cold.
Fei Wen never asked unnecessary questions and simply obeyed orders.
“Understood.”
Looking at the two decisive men before him, Guan Mingxian felt they were both unbelievably ruthless.
At this rate, they’d probably stay single forever.
Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly noticed Tan Shen’s phone screen light up.
Instinctively, he glanced over.
The phone flashed briefly before the man quickly picked it up.
All he managed to see was the caller ID that flashed across the screen:
【Baby Fairy Princess】
