Chapter 5: Did He Seriously Think She Was Trying to Climb into His Bed?
Her hand paused.
Looking down, she saw the man who had been unconscious slowly opening his eyes.
His gaze was as deep as an ancient well.
Even after lying unconscious for days, the sharp, commanding aura surrounding him remained impossible to conceal.
“Who are you? What are you trying to do to me?”
His voice was low and hoarse from his prolonged sleep, yet the coldness in his dark eyes was unmistakable.
Yun Wei came back to her senses and frowned slightly.
The obvious hostility and disgust radiating from him made her uncomfortable.
Could it be…
He actually thought she was trying to climb into his bed?
The realization nearly made her cough up blood in anger.
Keeping a straight face, she replied neither humbly nor arrogantly,
“I am the owner of Qianjin Pavilion. I’ve come here to detoxify Your Highness.”
“The owner of Qianjin Pavilion? Detoxify me?”
Rong Zhen narrowed his long eyes.
His voice turned icy.
“Impudent. How dare you speak such outrageous lies before me!”
The next instant, he tightened his grip on her wrist and, with a flick of his arm, threw Yun Wei off the bed.
A tremendous force struck her.
Caught completely off guard, she was flung onto the floor.
Yun Wei stared in disbelief at the man now sitting upright on the bed.
Dressed only in a white inner robe, his ink-black hair cascaded loosely over his shoulders and back.
Turning his head, he looked down at her from above with an air of absolute superiority.
Yun Wei was so angry she laughed.
She truly wanted to leave on the spot.
But remembering why she had come, she suppressed her temper and rose from the floor.
Only then did Qingfeng and the eunuch snap out of their shock.
They hurriedly explained,
“Master, this lady truly is the owner of Qianjin Pavilion. She really came to detoxify you.”
Rong Zhen narrowed his eyes again, clearly displeased.
“While I was unconscious, have the two of you lost even your most basic judgment? Can just anyone claim to be the owner of Qianjin Pavilion?”
Both men stiffened.
In truth, they had doubted Yun Wei’s identity from the very beginning.
After all, no one had ever seen the mysterious owner of Qianjin Pavilion.
They had even investigated the pavilion before.
Yet no matter how thoroughly they searched…
They found absolutely no information about its owner.
And now, the owner had simply appeared at their doorstep.
The whole situation was suspicious beyond measure.
Still…
Their master had already been examined by numerous imperial physicians and renowned doctors, none of whom could identify the cause of his illness.
Only this woman claiming to be the owner of Qianjin Pavilion had accurately described his condition.
Seeing that their master had remained unconscious for so long, they had no choice but to take the risk and trust her.
Now that they had been reprimanded, neither dared say another word.
Yun Wei, however, spoke calmly.
“I truly am the owner of Qianjin Pavilion. If your people hadn’t detained Physician Tan from my pavilion, I would never have come here voluntarily to treat Your Highness.”
Rong Zhen studied her for a moment before asking casually,
“Is that so? Then tell me… what poison have I been afflicted with?”
“Yinxi,” Yun Wei answered without hesitation.
“You know about Yinxi?”
The words escaped Rong Zhen before he could stop himself.
A year ago, after suspecting that he had been poisoned, he had discovered a record of this poison in an ancient manuscript.
Comparing the description with his own symptoms, he had concluded that Yinxi was the most likely culprit.
Yet countless physicians—including the Imperial Physicians within the palace—had never even heard of such a poison.
He had never expected to hear its name spoken by the woman standing before him.
Yun Wei nodded.
“Yinxi is a poison that renders a man infertile.
“Your Highness has carried this poison in your body for many years. As for its symptoms, you should know them better than anyone.
“Not only are you incapable of consummating a marriage…
“You cannot even achieve the most basic physical arousal expected of a man.
“Now the poison has spread throughout your body. About a year ago, you began falling unconscious repeatedly.
“This latest episode is even more severe.
“If the poison is not brought under control immediately…
“Your Highness will not survive another month.”
Rong Zhen’s long, raven-like eyelashes trembled.
A faint flush spread across his otherwise pale face.
This woman…
Hidden beneath the blanket, his hand clenched tightly in embarrassment.
At the same time, killing intent flashed across his eyes.
Meanwhile, Qingfeng and the eunuch paid no attention whatsoever to the awkward revelation.
Their minds had frozen on a single sentence.
“…will not survive another month.”
The two men instantly turned pale with alarm.
All composure deserted them.
At that moment, they no longer cared who Yun Wei really was.
They hurriedly pleaded,
“Miss, please… save our master.”
Yun Wei frowned.
“At present, the poison has already begun spreading through Your Highness’s body. For now, I can only use acupuncture to slow its spread.
“After that, I’ll need to prepare a prescription.
“However, the medicine requires a very rare catalyst herb.
“If that ingredient cannot be found…
“Even I will be powerless.”
The moment Qingfeng heard this, he immediately asked,
“May I ask… what is this catalyst herb?”
Yun Wei did not answer Qingfeng’s question.
Instead, she turned to Rong Zhen.
“Your Highness, do you still doubt my identity?”
Rong Zhen’s expression had already returned to its usual calm.
His dark eyes fixed on her coldly.
“Even if you know about the poison Yinxi, you still have no token to prove that you are the owner of Qianjin Pavilion, do you?”
Sensing the killing intent radiating from him, Yun Wei paused before asking calmly,
“What benefit would I gain from deceiving you?
“Besides, Your Highness is already at death’s door. If I truly harbored malicious intentions, why would I risk entering the Regent Prince’s Manor to treat you?
“Wouldn’t it be much easier to simply wait another month for the poison to claim your life?”
“Impudent!”
The eunuch immediately shouted at her.
Yet his eyes had already reddened with grief.
Yun Wei merely glanced at him without taking offense.
She looked back at Rong Zhen, her expression composed and unhurried.
“Your Highness, whether you choose to be treated or not is entirely your decision.
“It makes no difference to me.”
Qingfeng looked at Yun Wei for a moment before suddenly dropping to one knee before Rong Zhen.
“Master, I believe the owner of Qianjin Pavilion has no reason to deceive us.”
Seeing this, the eunuch also knelt, his eyes still red.
“Master, your life is far too precious. Nothing must happen to you. Please… trust this lady just this once.”
Meanwhile, Yun Wei stood beside the candle, calmly heating the silver needle over the flame.
She was convinced that Rong Zhen would allow her to treat him.
Because…
He had no better choice.
At the same time, she knew perfectly well that Rong Zhen had already developed the intention to kill her.
Even so, she was confident she could leave the manor safely.
Otherwise, she would never have revealed both her identity and her status as the owner of Qianjin Pavilion by coming here.
Rong Zhen narrowed his phoenix eyes.
Looking at the calm and composed woman before him, a trace of displeasure arose within him.
He hated this feeling…
The feeling that the initiative was no longer entirely in his own hands.
After a long silence, he finally spoke in a low voice.
“What is your name?”
A flicker passed through Yun Wei’s eyes.
But then she realized that since she had already shown both her face and her identity today, there was no point in concealing it any longer.
She answered frankly,
“Yun Wei.”
“A member of the Yun family?”
Rong Zhen asked.
“What relation is Yun Yueshan to you?”
Yun Wei’s heart skipped a beat.
She couldn’t help admiring how perceptive this man was.
Keeping her composure, she replied calmly,
“He is my father.”
A hint of amusement suddenly appeared in Rong Zhen’s eyes.
“Does your father know that you’re the owner of Qianjin Pavilion?”
Yun Wei pursed her lips and shook her head.
Rong Zhen found himself growing curious.
Here was a woman who not only possessed remarkable medical skills but was also the mysterious owner of the famous Qianjin Pavilion.
Yet her own father knew absolutely nothing about it.
This woman…
was anything but ordinary.
Not wanting him to ask any more questions, Yun Wei stepped closer with the silver needle in hand.
“Your Highness, may I begin the acupuncture now?”
Rong Zhen glanced at the long, slender silver needle between her fingers.
Pressing his lips together, he gave a slight nod.
“Mm.”
“Then, Your Highness, please remove your upper garments.”
For the first time, surprise flickered across Rong Zhen’s usually imposing face.
Thinking he hadn’t heard her, Yun Wei repeated,
“Please remove your upper garments as soon as possible, Your Highness.”
A vein twitched at Rong Zhen’s temple.
He still made no move.
Instead, his handsome brows furrowed tightly.
Unable to bear the awkward silence, the eunuch hurriedly exclaimed,
“Your Highness, Miss Yun is asking you to remove your robe. Allow this servant to assist you.”
As he reached out, Rong Zhen shot him a cold, piercing glance.
The eunuch instantly froze.
He looked at his master helplessly, not daring to move another step.
Yun Wei frowned.
“Your Highness, if you don’t remove your clothing, I won’t be able to locate the acupuncture points accurately.”
She genuinely couldn’t understand why such a grown man was acting so awkwardly.
He was taking forever.
It was delaying the treatment.
She was only asking him to remove his upper robe—
Not to strip completely.
With that thought, she added matter-of-factly,
“Your Highness needn’t worry. I’m already married.
“Besides… I have no interest in a man who can’t consummate a marriage.”
