An Ankle Injury (1/2)
Chapter 9: An Ankle Injury
Tan Shen calmly picked up his phone and stood up to answer the call off to the side.
Guan Mingxian was completely dumbfounded.
â???â
He turned and patted Fei Wen on the shoulder.
âFeifei, did you see that?â
Fei Wen brushed his hand off his shoulder and replied sparingly, âI saw it.â
Compared to Guan Mingxian, whose jaw had practically hit the floor, Fei Wen remained as composed as ever.
âBa-baby fairy… Young Miss?â Guan Mingxian was stammering so badly he could barely speak.
Tan Shen shot him a cold glance.
Guan Mingxian immediately shut his mouth obediently.
But inwardly, he was still in shock.
Was this really the contact name their abstinent, monk-like Tan Shen would come up with?
Ugh, how embarrassing~
Of course not.
Tan Shen’s calm eyes swept over the contact name. He hadn’t changed it himself. A certain young miss had snatched his phone and changed it without permission, then domineeringly ordered him not to change it back.
Since Tan Shen never cared much about things like this, he had simply left it alone.
âHello.â
His voice was slightly low.
He thought it was rare for the little fox to call him.
Wasn’t she already with company today? Why was she still so clingy?
However, the voice that came from the other end wasn’t Xie Yurao’s, but a maid’s. She sounded somewhat anxious.
âMr. Tan.â
âYes.â
âMiss…â
The maid hurriedly continued,
âSomething unexpected happened. Could you come back right away?â
Tan Shen immediately frowned, and his tone unconsciously deepened.
âWhat happened?â
It sounded less like a question and more like an interrogation.
âWell…â
The scene on the other end of the phone sounded chaotic.
Growing impatient, Tan Shen cut her off.
âI’ll be back immediately.â
After hanging up, he grabbed the car keys from the coffee table and strode toward the door.
âHey, Tanââ
Before Guan Mingxian could finish speaking, the only response was the loud slam of a closing door.
â…â
The room fell silent.
Guan Mingxian rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
âWhy do I feel like this situation is developing in a very strange direction?â
He was never one to keep quiet, so he turned to the only person available for discussion.
âFeifei, do you think… Brother Tan might actually like that precious fairy young miss of his?â
Even Fei Wen had been thoroughly stunned by that ridiculously long contact name.
After a moment, he shook his head, his expression still completely blank.
Yet his tone was exceptionally certain.
âNo.â
On the road, Tan Shen floored the accelerator, practically racing all the way back to the villa.
Upon arriving, he strode toward the front hall while asking the maid in a low voice,
âWhat happened?â
Again, it sounded more like an interrogation than a question.
Intimidated by the powerful pressure he exuded, the maid hurried after him nervously.
âWell… Miss accidentally injured her ankle…â
Tan Shen frowned.
An ankle injury?
Could it be that Xie Jingchuan had taken advantage of his absence to make a move against her?
His expression sharpened immediately, and he quickened his pace.
With his long legs and tall frame, the maid could barely keep up even while running.
As he rounded the corridor, he finally saw the scene in the front hall.
His expression relaxed slightly, only to freeze again.
Xie Yurao sat curled up on the sofa, looking listless.
Her skirt had been rolled up to cover her thighs, her feet were bare, and her eyes were watery with tears, making her look rather pitiful.
Squatting in front of her was Jiang Mingci.
He stared helplessly at her swollen, reddened ankle, looking as though he wanted to touch it but didn’t dare.
âMiss, how about I just carry you to the hospital?â
Who knew how much longer they’d have to wait for that bodyguard…
Yet after getting injured, she refused everyone else.
She only wanted Tan Shen.
Xie Yurao weakly opened her eyes and was about to speak when a cold voice suddenly interrupted her.
