Chapter 3 — Fu Nanzhou Is Zhuang Yi’s Biological Uncle
Fu Nanzhou’s expression darkened. “No!”
Lu Xi’s little face fell. “But we got married by mistake.”
“You made a mistake, but I didn’t. I was the one who proposed the marriage. I have no intention of getting divorced. Being married for a second time would affect my prospects. I’m already thirty this year, so it’s not easy for me to find a partner. You’re young and beautiful, and I know when to be content.”
This was absolutely nonsense.
Forget about Fu Nanzhou’s status as the person in charge of the Fu family. Just his face alone could attract countless admirers. How could he possibly have trouble finding young, beautiful women throwing themselves at him?
Lu Xi bit her lip. What was she supposed to do now?
She regretted it terribly.
From what this man was saying, he seemed to have trouble finding a partner. Could it be that he had some kind of illness?
“This is my home address. Move there directly. I’ll send the password to your phone. I’m in a hurry and can’t take you there, so take a taxi yourself. Use the money on this card for your expenses. Buy whatever you need.”
Fu Nanzhou really was in a hurry. After saying this, he handed Lu Xi a bank card, then quickly got into the car and left.
Lu Xi stood there stupidly, staring at the bank card.
A credit card!
Wasn’t Mr. Fu afraid that she would max it out?
Lu Xi suddenly crouched down, pouting in frustration.
She had really gone crazy.
Not only had she mistaken someone else for her blind date, but she had also impulsively married an older man.
If she told her sister, her sister would probably be furious with her.
Lu Xi took a photo of her marriage certificate and sent it to her best friend, Zhuang Yi, followed by a crying emoji.
Zhuang Yi immediately bombarded her with a phone call.
“Lu Xi, are you crazy?! Do you know who that man is? That’s Fu Nanzhou, my biological uncle!
“Damn you! I kindly introduced you to someone, and you actually wanted to become my uncle’s wife! You have no conscience!
“Lu Xi, you’re finished! You’re finished! Your good days are over!”
Lu Xi pouted. “I’m sorry. I didn’t expect to mistake the wrong person either. He had a fountain pen tucked into his chest pocket.”
Zhuang Yi looked helpless. “My uncle is so old. Didn’t you notice?”
Lu Xi’s voice became even quieter. “I noticed, but your uncle is too handsome. I was too focused on his face and overlooked his age.”
“Xixi, do you know what marrying my uncle means?”
Lu Xi didn’t understand. “What does it mean?”
“It means you’ll be controlled tightly for the rest of your life! And you’re a substitute, girl! My uncle used to have a girlfriend he dated for six years. You look very much like her, understand?”
Lu Xi froze for a moment, then suddenly understood.
“No wonder your uncle wanted to marry me after meeting me for the first time.
“Yi Yi, please help me beg your uncle to divorce me.”
Zhuang Yi looked horrified. “Please spare me! If I dared to interfere in his affairs, my uncle would beat me to death! You’re on your own.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the call was disconnected.
Lu Xi: “…”
Zhuang Yi was such a terrible friend.
What was she supposed to do now?
Lu Xi didn’t have many belongings. When she graduated, she had sold everything she could. Most of the things at her sister’s house were her clothes and some miscellaneous items.
After what had happened earlier, Lu Xi didn’t dare go back alone.
Fortunately, her sister’s mother-in-law, Li Qian, had gone to the house to pick up some of Guoguo’s toys. She couldn’t find them, so she called Lu Xi.
When Lu Xi returned home, Li Qian was already sitting on the sofa, cracking sunflower seeds. Not all the shells had made it into the trash can; they were scattered everywhere.
As soon as Li Qian saw her, she said, “Xixi, where did you run off to? You didn’t even tidy up the house. I’m in a hurry, so I can’t clean up for you.”
Lu Xi thought to herself, You certainly have time to sit around eating sunflower seeds.
But aloud, she remained polite. “Auntie, I had something to take care of, so I went out for a while.”
Li Qian curled her lips. “You still haven’t found a job. What could you possibly have to do?”
Lu Xi was a little annoyed. “Auntie, I’ll be starting work at the Fu Group next week.”
Li Qian froze for a moment. “The Fu Group? Nan Nan got you in, right?
“Xixi, it’s not that I want to say this, but you and your sister must have burned incense in your previous lives to be lucky enough to marry into our family. Our Nan Nan has really gone all out for you sisters.
“But Xixi, you’re not young anymore. You can’t keep staying at home and living off us forever, can you?!”
Lu Xi pursed her lips. “Auntie, I’ve been tutoring students since university. I’ve also contributed twenty thousand yuan a year to the household.”
Li Qian sneered. “What can those twenty thousand yuan even do? Forget it, let’s not talk about that. I have a nephew who just turned forty-two. He divorced recently, and all three of his children were left in his care, so he wants to find another wife.
“My nephew is a little ugly, but he has money. His family probably has eight hundred thousand to one million yuan or so. I was thinking of introducing you two. He agreed to give a bride price of six hundred and sixty thousand yuan.
“Your brother-in-law’s house is too small. As his mother, I want to help him get a bigger place. The six hundred and sixty thousand yuan bride price, plus whatever your uncle and I can put together, should be enough to buy your brother-in-law a large three-bedroom apartment. Then you’ll have somewhere to stay when you come back, and you won’t have to squeeze in with Guoguo.”
Lu Xi suppressed her anger. “Then wouldn’t you have to sell this house first?”
Li Qian glared at her. “Property prices are falling right now. Wouldn’t selling it mean losing money? Just take out a loan directly.”
Lu Xi asked again, “Would the loan be under my sister’s name or my brother-in-law’s?”
Li Qian grabbed another handful of sunflower seeds. “Your brother-in-law can’t. If he buys another property, it’ll count as a second home, and the taxes will be higher. Your sister doesn’t have a housing provident fund, and her job isn’t stable.
“I’m a teacher. Put the property under my name and use my housing provident fund for the loan. That’ll save quite a lot. Your sister can simply give me the monthly mortgage payments. Everyone will be happy.”
Lu Xi finally understood.
Wasn’t this just trying to get something for nothing?
“Auntie, I understand.”
Li Qian’s face brightened. “You agree?”
Lu Xi shook her head. “Auntie, I can’t agree because I’m already married.”
Li Qian immediately jumped to her feet in anger and pointed at Lu Xi as she cursed, “You ungrateful ingrate! Who are you trying to fool?!
“You just graduated. Who did you possibly marry?!
“Do you think I wanted to introduce someone to you? My nephew has money! If you weren’t my daughter-in-law’s younger sister, would I give such a great opportunity to you?!
“Forget it. I’m not talking to you anymore. I’ll go talk to your sister. There was no point asking you in the first place!
“I’m being kind, and you treat me like this! Do you think I’m after that little bit of bride price money?!”
Li Qian was furious. She grabbed Guoguo’s toys and left.
Lu Xi was also in a bad mood.
In the past, whenever Li Qian came over, she would always complain that Lu Xi was living off them. She would act concerned about Lu Xi in front of her sister, but behind her back, she would constantly criticize and nitpick.
It was true that Lu Xi lived there, but her sister earned a good income. Moreover, ever since university, Lu Xi had paid her own tuition. She usually lived at school and never came home during the winter or summer holidays.
This year, because she had graduated, she had stayed at home for a month.
And that was enough for Li Qian to set her sights on her.
Lu Xi quickly packed her things. She had a feeling that if she waited any longer, Li Qian might really sell her off to that nephew.
Just as Lu Xi finished packing and was dragging her suitcase out the door, her sister called.
“Xixi, what happened between you and my mother-in-law?”
Lu Xi sat down on her suitcase. After thinking it over, she decided to tell her sister.
“Sis, your mother-in-law insisted on introducing me to her nephew. He’s already forty-two and has three children. I refused to marry him, and she got angry.”
Lu Yao sighed. “You could’ve simply refused. Why did you have to provoke her?! She came in just now and threw the teddy bear at Guoguo’s face. Luckily, one of the teddy bear’s eyes fell off. Otherwise, wouldn’t it have hurt the child if it hit her in the face?”
Lu Yao felt sorry for her daughter, and there was an unmistakable hint of reproach in her tone.
