Chapter 60
Life at the Academy With My Brother
The day after the entrance ceremony at Veritas Academy—
Dressed in my brand-new uniform, I walked to school together with my brother, fulfilling a dream I had always believed would never come true.
You must attend the academy for five years, starting at age fourteen.
My brother and I are six years apart, so by the time I entered the academy, he should’ve already graduated at twenty.
No matter how hard I tried, there was simply no way we could attend the academy together.
There’s no grade-skipping system at the academy, and even if there were, I was always so frail and barely able to study. Skipping grades would’ve been impossible.
That was why I’d been so depressed—thinking I would have even less time with my brother.
But!
My brother was coming to the academy as a special lecturer.
Which meant I could spend more time with him than before.
“Your class starts today, so I’m really looking forward to it!”
My brother teaches magical theory, and unbelievably, he has a class from day one.
I’m so happy I could faint.
He’s not wearing the formal outfits he uses when working at the royal palace. Instead he’s wearing a shirt and vest—slightly casual, but that only makes him look even cooler.
He’s the same age—twenty—that he was when Abel killed him in the novel, but compared to the illustrations, he’s so much, so much, SO much more handsome in real life.
His shimmering silver hair still shines like moonlight, but his ice-blue eyes—which used to look literally icy in the novel—now hold a gentle warmth. There’s nothing cold about them.
His face, the perfect golden-ratio masterpiece that could only exist if God tried to sculpt a flawless human, has matured into a strikingly handsome young man.
He is PERFECT of PERFECT.
After he graduated the academy and started assisting Father at the palace, I already felt sad because we had less time together.
And now that I was entering the academy, I thought we’d drift apart even more.
But now we can walk to school together three times a week.
And I can even take his classes.
Ah—
Does this mean… I might be able to eat lunch with him in the school cafeteria?!
God!!
And Robert-sensei and Ran, thank you for making that miracle medicine for my magic overload!!!
Not dying was important because it prevented my brother from turning into the final boss… but in the novel, I died before even entering the academy. Yet here I am, attending the academy—and even sharing school life with my brother. It’s a dream.
I have to work hard in my brother’s magical theory class!
“I’ll definitely get the highest score in your class this year!”
“Leti, you’re still not completely well. Don’t push yourself too hard.”
My brother cupped my cheek gently, peering at me with worry.
His fingers, hardened by sword training, are a little rough.
And yet—my cheek leans into his hand automatically.
Rub rub.
“My magic overload is cured, so I’m fine! And Moko is with me.”
Students normally aren’t allowed to bring pets to school.
But in Moko’s case, he was officially approved as necessary to control my episodes.
He’s treated like a guide dog, or something similar.
My magic overload is cured, but if I get too excited, my magic might burst out and I suddenly fall asleep—so Moko is still essential.
Father and big brother Serios appealed to the academy, explaining everything, and they granted special permission.
Truly—having ducal power is the best!
“In that case, it should be fine… But while you’re at the academy, Dr. Robert will be stationed here as a school physician. If anything happens, go to him immediately.”
“Yes! Of course.”
In the novel, Robert-sensei was the school doctor, but this time he came to the academy specifically because of me.
He’s basically been dispatched by the ducal house, just to make sure they can handle anything in case I collapse.
Which means… he’s in the infirmary purely for my sake, serving as the academy’s second physician.
The ducal authority is terrifying.
Father cries easily at home and seems like a total softie, but at times like this, he really gets things done.
I might have raised my opinion of him just a little.
Just a tiny bit, though!
