Chapter 54 I’m Happy, but This Is a Crisis

No, this is weird.

Why do I glow?

The special medicine made from golden lycoris is supposed to disperse magical surges before they erupt, but for some reason, in my case, it causes me to shine.

At this academy are:
the hero Abel who kills my brother, and Princess Fiona who betrays him.

According to the novel, Abel already awakened as a Hero.
But for some reason, the Demon King hasn’t been born.

Abel’s magical rampage unleashed enormous magic and left him hovering between life and death, but that was when he awakened as a Hero and survived.

The Hero’s awakening was delivered to the church through divine oracle, so Abel was immediately taken in by them.

The church assumed that the birth of a Hero must be a sign of the Demon King’s imminent revival, so they sent Abel to the academy to grow stronger.

In the novel, the Demon King revived first, and Abel awakened after. The order is a bit reversed now.

I got depressed thinking it was my fault for stealing the holy sword, but according to the holy sword Ran—currently in butler form—it’s likely because not enough miasma has accumulated to spawn a Demon King.

In this world, when war breaks out, many die holding grudges. Those grudges increase the number of spirits in the Underworld.
When the Underworld overflows, excess miasma seeps into the living world.

At first it’s just a lump of miasma, but as it grows stronger, it takes on a divine—or rather humanoid—form and becomes what we call a “Demon King.”

And since the Demon King is born from the hatred of the dead, it naturally tries to annihilate humanity.

Then, countries that were at war unite for the sake of “Defeating the Demon King.”

After the Hero defeats it, the countries eventually start fighting again, and the cycle repeats.

Honestly… I guess every world needs a common enemy to unite humanity.

Wouldn’t it be nicer if everyone were just a bit more tolerant and friendly…?

Anyway, Hero Abel attends this academy, but since the Demon King subjugation party hasn’t formed yet, he shouldn’t have any reason to interact with my brother.

At least, that’s what I thought—so I was relieved.

But if my brother is coming as an instructor… then they’ll inevitably interact.

And I really, really don’t want my brother involved with Abel.

Because Abel kills him!
