Chapter 77
 âThe Bodyguard Squadâs Rampageâ
It was lunchtime.
Lyrisia was nibbling on bread and soup in the school cafeteria when she suddenly realized that she couldnât see the bodyguard squad.
ââŠHuh? Where did the nineteen of them go?â
A bad feeling gnawed at her.
And, as usual, her intuition was spot on.
âOn the cityâs main street.
The bodyguard squad was gathered around food stalls, inspecting every stand.
They were attempting âhaggling negotiations,â which they had just learned from Kai yesterday.
âBig brother! Three skewers for one silver coin is too expensive!â
âMy little brother! Youâve gotta say, âWonât you give me a discount?â!â
âWonât you give me a discount!? Right! Make it cheaper!â
The stall owner gawked in confusion.
âThis bag of candy costs five copper coins!? No way! Weâre students! Make it cheaper!â
âItâs a student discount! Candy is necessary for studying!â
Even Merryl raised her voice with utmost seriousness.
âWhen I was a rock, I didnât need money! So I donât get bargaining! Butâmake it cheaper!â
Gorum clasped his hands together, begging as if in prayer.
Overwhelmed by their intensity, the stall owner gave in, nearly in tears:
ââŠFine, take it already!â
At that moment, Lyrisia rushed over.
âHey! What do you think youâre doing?!â
âPrincess! Weâre putting Mr. Crossâs lessons into practice!â
âYou were told not to put them into practice!â
âBut negotiation is a fundamental skill for learning!â
âThis isnât negotiation, itâs almost robbery!â
Passersby whispered to each other, âItâs the Cross group again.â
Blushing, Lyrisia dragged the bodyguard squad along and left the street.
âââ
Back at the academy, Kai was waiting with his arms crossed.
ââŠWhat did you guys get up to in town?â
âTeacher!â
The bodyguard squad shouted in unison.
âWeâve mastered âNandeyanen!â and âWonât you give me a discount?!â!â
âYou donât need to master that!â
Kai pressed his hand to his forehead and shouted.
âListen up. Haggling depends on the time and place. You donât cause a scene at a food stall. Peopleâs trust is heavier than money!â
ââŠWe messed up.â
Gorum muttered dejectedly.
The rest of the squad slumped their shoulders in unison.
Lyrisia sighed and collapsed onto the desk.
âReally⊠But somehow, itâs lively and never boring, isnât it?â
Kai glanced at her small smile and gave a wry grin.
(These guys⊠seriously, what are they doing with their school life?)
And so, the bodyguard squadâs âKansai Dialect Bargaining Rampage Incidentâ came to an endâbut in town, a strange rumor had already begun to spread: âThe Cross group is stingy.â
