Chapter 23
“Aftermath of the Incident — The Official Married Comedy Duo Takes the Capital by Storm”
Inside the private room of the high-class restaurant Sōkyūkan.
The gang of villains was already on their knees, weapons thrown aside, tightly bound by the Royal Capital’s Knights of Public Safety.
“You lot sure made a fine mess of things…!”
The captain of the knights had half-drawn his sword, but froze when he saw the situation.
“The elite squad finally arrives, and there’s nothing left to do…”
“Guess all that’s left is transporting prisoners. Good work, y’all.”
Kai shrugged with a grin.
“Professor, that anti-magic barrier of yours was incredible!”
A young knight spoke up timidly.
“Nah, it’s just a formula, really. √r² = r. Set it to zero, and everything stops.”
“If you set it to zero, nothing’s left!”
“That’s why nothing’s left. Simple, right?”
“It’s not simple at all!”
Laughter spread through the room again.
Duke Siegfried let out a hearty laugh, while his two sons sheathed their swords.
“Wilhelm, Julius — splendid work.”
“But of course, Father.”
“We’d never forgive anyone who dares lay a hand on our sister.”
Beside them, Lutia gave a proud huff as she returned her sword to its scabbard.
“Hmph. Naturally. Because I’m the one who protects this man.”
She declared boldly and wrapped her arms around Kai’s.
“H-Hey! Everyone’s watching!”
“It’s fine. I’ve already decided I won’t hold back anymore.”
“Good grief… you really act like a wife now, huh.”
“Not like a wife — I am the wife.”
“Don’t say it twice!”
Laughter and exasperation mixed together in the air.
That night.
News of the incident spread throughout the capital — the rumor that “a duke’s family and one teacher captured a band of notorious criminals” became the talk of the city.
“Hey, that Professor Kai guy, he’s the one with that Kansai accent, right?”
“Yeah, yeah — the weird one who hands out candy.”
“But he’s also the strongest teacher in the kingdom, y’know.”
Before long, the capital had fully embraced the gossip of the “Married Comedy Duo: The Teacher and the Lady.”
The next morning.
In the academy classroom, the usual back-and-forth began.
“Professor, what’s today’s lesson?”
“Today’s about ‘Logarithms and the Duration of Love.’”
“Not another love topic!?”
“Now, now — love’s an important subject. Both it and logarithms settle down quickly, y’see.”
“That’s wrong! My love doesn’t settle down!”
Lutia instantly cut in, slamming her desk.
“It’ll go on and on forever!”
“R-right… that’s a bit too much enthusiasm, don’t ya think?”
“Too much? That’s just right!”
The classroom burst into laughter as students scrambled to take notes on the blackboard.
Meanwhile, in the staff room, the other teachers whispered with wry smiles.
“Professor Cross has completely become part of the duke’s family now.”
“At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before he’s the official son-in-law.”
“Actually, I heard they’re already talking about setting a wedding date.”
“His Majesty the King will probably find it amusing, too…”
And that rumor would soon ripple out even further across the kingdom.
