Chapter 184 â Giving Illness and Giving Medicine
Lucion had just started to stand when his body fell backward and landed on top of me.
At the same time, light burst out from my hand and blocked the falling backdrop first.
With a huge crash, the backdrop shattered. The others behind it fell like dominoes and collapsed over us.
Boom!
ââŚ!â
I had shut my eyes tightly, but soon I opened them, coughing.
Dust floated thickly in the air.
Thankfully, neither of us was crushed. The falling backdrops had hit the wall at an angle and created a small space underneath.
But we were trapped by the collapsed panels.
âYour Highness, are you alright?â I asked.
ââŚI-Iâm sorry!â
Lucion quickly lifted himself off me, flustered.
Only then did I hear Ceciliaâs sharp scream and Norton shouting outside.
âYour Highness!â
âCan you hear me? Please answer!â
âOh my goodness! Wasnât the Prince with her?â
âAre you alright? Move the panels carefully!â
I could hear them pushing, but instead of helping, the backdrops shifted slightly, as if they might fall further.
âDamn it!â Norton cursed.
âCall a mage! Hurry!â
âYour Highness!â Cecilia was almost crying.
I quickly shouted, âIâm fine!â
âYour Highness!â Cecilia yelled through a tiny crack between the panels. âAre you hurt?â
âBoth the Prince and I are safe!â
Norton spoke with a trembling voice. âA mage will be here soon. Please hold on!â
They were afraid that touching the panels carelessly would make them collapse more.
That was wise.
I looked at the panels barely holding against the wall and told them to take their time. Then I stepped back.
The floor was covered with broken pieces of the backdrop I had shattered.
âI should stay low until they rescue us.â
I pushed the pieces aside with my foot and made space to sit.
âYour Highness, please sit down tooâ!â
When I turned to Lucion, I froze.
Red blood was running down from his smooth white forehead.
âYour Highness! Youâre bleeding!â
ââŚItâs fine.â
âIt is not fine!â
Thick drops of blood were falling past his chin.
I quickly pulled him down to sit. One shoulder of his cream-colored shirt was already soaked red.
When I brushed aside his blood-soaked hair, I saw a deep cut on his forehead.
A piece of the shattered backdrop must have hit him. The cut was just above his eyebrow. If it had been slightly lower, it could have injured his eye.
I hurriedly took out my handkerchief and pressed it against the wound.
Thankfully, Ramondria had sewn a small pocket into my dress belt, so I had one with me.
The cloth soaked through quickly, and I kept adjusting it while pressing the wound.
Lucion stared at me blankly.
âHe didnât hit his head too hard, did he?â
I had meant to pull him away to save him, but it ended up looking like I used him as a shield.
And now his forehead looked like this.
Blood kept flowing.
ââŚThereâs a lot of blood,â I muttered, my voice shaking.
âItâs alright.â
No, itâs not alright! You canât even see how bad it is!
Cold sweat ran down my back.
âMore importantly, I havenât even thanked you yet,â Lucion said, his face pale. âI owe you my life. I will repay this debt.â
âThatâs not necessaryâŚâ
âIf you hadnât pulled me, I would have died.â
That wasnât wrong, so I stayed silent.
After hesitating, he asked carefully,
âThe light earlier⌠was thatâŚ?â
âOf course he saw it.â
I bit the inside of my cheek.
I only thought it was dangerous, and my holy power burst out again on its own.
I thought I had learned to control it better.
Before I could think of an excuseâ
ââŚPerhaps I was mistaken,â Lucion said quietly, lowering his eyes.
It sounded like he wouldnât ask more if I didnât want to answer.
ââŚMaybe you were,â I replied slowly.
He nodded. âI see.â
And he didnât ask again.
I felt ridiculous.
Holy power is supposed to heal people, right?
How did I manage to hurt someone with it instead?
âWait⌠Iâve been pressing for a while. Why wonât it stop bleeding?â
Lucionâs face was getting paler.
âIs he going into shock?â
Then a crazy thought came to me.
âCanât I just heal him?â
Miel had recently taught me the theory of healing. I hadnât practiced yet, since no one was injured before.
I glanced at Lucion.
âHe saw the light and still kept quiet.â
For some reason, I felt he wouldnât reveal it even if he saw holy power clearly.
His eyes were slowly closing.
âYour Highness! Stay awake! Donât close your eyes!â
He blinked slowly. His lips had already turned pale blue.
Without thinking further, I placed my hand on his forehead.
ââŚYour Highness?â
âStay still.â
I focused, remembering what Miel taught me.
âHoly power has no side effects.â
Even if I fail, it shouldnât cause harm.
Warm, familiar energy gathered around my hand.
Light flowed from my fingers into his wound.
ââŚ!â
Almost instantly, color returned to Lucionâs face.
After a moment, I removed my hand.
The wound on his forehead had completely disappeared without a trace.
Lucion touched his forehead in disbelief. His green eyes shook violently.
âTh-this isâŚ!â
âIâm insane!â
Even I couldnât believe it.
I healed someone with holy power.
And it was so easy.
âYour Highness, could it be that you are trulyâ!â
âYou must have seen it wrong!â I cut him off quickly.
This is really, really a secret!
I stared at him firmly.
ââŚYou understand, right?â
After a moment, he nodded. âI understand.â
I finally relaxed and sat down heavily.
At least the Prince wouldnât have to live with a scar because of me.
Outside, people were still busy making sure the panels didnât slip further.
For a while, Lucion stayed silent.
He looked thoughtfulâcalmer than usual.
âHeâs quiet.â
He usually seemed carefree, almost unstable. But now he looked serious.
âMaybe this is his real self.â
Then he suddenly spoke.
âIt has been a while since we were alone like this.â
âHas it?â
âHavenât you been avoiding me?â
I didnât deny it. I had been avoiding him.
âAm I⌠uncomfortable to you?â
âWell, shouldnât you answer that yourself?â I replied.
He looked confused.
âI donât like people who arenât honest,â I said without looking at him. âFor example, a gentleman who follows a woman he doesnât even like just because his sister asked him to.â
âThatâsâ!â
He looked shocked that I figured it out.
âThatâs half right and half wrong,â he muttered.
âAre you saying the Princess didnât ask you?â
âNo. The wrong part is something else.â
He lowered his eyes.
ââŚI simply failed to hide my feelings.â
I froze.
Wait.
Did I understand that correctly?
Did Lucion just confess to me?
âIâm married. Is he crazy?â
I turned to speak firmlyâ
âPlease donât hate me.â
His defeated tone made my words disappear.
His shoulders drooped like a stray cat with nowhere to go.
âI⌠donât hate you,â I said awkwardly.
That was true.
He sometimes made things complicated, but he wasnât a bad person.
âYou donât have to like me,â he whispered. âJust⌠donât hate me.â
If you hate me too, there will be no way to turn back.
His last words were almost inaudible.
âYour Highness, IâŚâ
Before I could answer, there was a loud commotion outside.
âMove!â
A flash of light shone through the crack.
With a loud crack, the panels above us split in half.
Through the broken backdrops, Loicâs face appeared.
âLoic!â
I jumped up in relief.
âAnnette!â
He rushed inside and pulled me tightly into his arms.
His strong arms were trembling uncontrollably.
