CHAPTER 75
I Tend to Handle Important Matters Personally
“I knew this would happen.”
Redemberg knew.
He knew that if he hadn’t come out here, the knights would have broken directly into the room to assassinate Redemberg.
“Did they order you to kill me?”
Considering the Count’s position and temperament, it was entirely predictable.
The most convenient way to solve a troublesome matter was to remove the cause directly. To the Count, Rek was exactly that cause.
So he had deliberately come out at the right time.
Because he didn’t want anyone else entering the room where Ehilie was.
Swish—
The blade cut through the air again.
Even with two armed knights before him, he remained composed.
Such blades couldn’t threaten him.
However—
“I really hate men who kill people!”
Ehilie’s words were threatening.
Redemberg seriously pondered.
How hard should he strike to incapacitate them without killing, rendering them unconscious.
Magic tools that detected mana were installed in the mansion, so he couldn’t use mana. He had no choice but to solve this with pure strength.
“Your Highness, please don’t just kill assassins on sight. If you capture them and reveal the mastermind, you can deal with everything more thoroughly.”
“I tried to keep them alive, but they died when I hit them once.”
“You should avoid vital points! And if you hit them this hard, they’ll die no matter where you strike. Use less force.”
“How much?”
“Just hit them lightly. Here, try hitting this wall for practice.”
He finally recalled the memory of being nagged by Herond.
Following the advice to use less force, he practiced and eventually punched through the wall.
Humans are weaker than Demon King castle walls, so he should use even less force.
While Redemberg was pondering, one knight thrust his sword. He lightly dodged and struck the knight’s side as lightly as possible.
Crack
“Kuhak!”
With the sound of ribs breaking, the knight foamed at the mouth and collapsed.
Redemberg grabbed the fallen knight’s head and confirmed he was still breathing.
“This seems about right.”
“Wh-what—”
Thud!
Redemberg dealt with the remaining knight before he could grasp the situation. The knight thrown by a single punch slumped down.
Redemberg, who checked the breathing of the other one just in case, smiled in satisfaction.
‘I can handle the rest like this too!’
He gathered the slumped knights in one place and moved lightly.
His destination was the Count’s room.
***
“Father-in-law.”
Redemberg called out very politely.
The Count startled and barely nodded his head.
“Isn’t there someone else you should apologize to?”
“That, well, I’ll take care of it.”
Ehilie didn’t seem to particularly want her father’s apology, so he cut unnecessary conversation and got to the main point.
“I will take your daughter.”
“I will make her happy for life.”
“I hope you conduct yourself well so that no blood gets on my hands.”
He recited politely as Ehilie had taught him.
Not exactly, but with appropriate modifications.
Anyway, as long as the meaning matched.
After finishing his one-sided notification, he lightly tapped the Count’s shoulder. It meant to come to his senses and respond to his words.
Crack, something broke.
Oops, he had failed to control his strength and broken the Count’s shoulder bone.
“Aah—hm!”
The Count, about to scream, quickly raised the arm Redemberg hadn’t touched and covered his mouth with his hand.
Fortunately, he seemed to have some learning ability.
“I hope you won’t go around blabbing about today’s events unnecessarily. If your entire family disappears overnight, I don’t think Ehilie’s heart would feel very good.”
If he did anything unnecessary, he would eliminate the entire Count’s family.
That was the meaning.
It probably got across well.
“Then, have a good night, Father-in-law.”
Having perfectly finished his greeting, he left the room.
As he had told Ehilie, Redemberg tended to handle important matters personally.
Now that he had finished his work, it was time to return to her side.
Not that he was particularly worried about the Count.
It was a question asked out of courtesy.
The Count’s pupils shook as if broken. He blinked his eyes repeatedly and urgently shook his head.
“Ah. No. No. It’s fine.”
“Never mind then.”
“…Are you leaving?”
“Yes. Don’t try to stop me anymore. If you forcefully try to stop me, I won’t stay still either—”
“Yes, go carefully.”
“Huh?”
Ehilie was bewildered.
‘He’s letting me go so easily? And telling me to go carefully?’
Something felt very off.
Wasn’t he pretending to let her go while plotting something else? Like ambushing the carriage.
Having experienced a similar situation with Mikhail, she didn’t let her guard down.
But then even more astonishing words came from the Count’s mouth.
“And… I-I’m sorry for everything until now.”
“Huh?”
“I won’t interfere in your life anymore. Forget everything that happened yesterday and today, and you forget everything too and live happily.”
Ehilie stared at the Count with her mouth agape.
What is this? Can a person change overnight?
Amidst her confusion, a ominous thought suddenly crossed her mind.
‘Wait. Surely this isn’t a family regret story cliché?’
A family that abused their daughter belatedly realizing her preciousness and clinging to her…
Ehilie shuddered and trembled all over.
She absolutely did not want to star in any family regret story with these people.
“Rek, let’s go quickly! Right now!”
Ehilie urgently grabbed Rek’s hand and ran.
She wanted to escape this dreadful mansion immediately.
Ehilie didn’t know.
That something even more enormous was waiting at the place she was returning to.
