“Are you perhaps protesting against me?”
“What?”
Ines, who had been relieved because she naturally expected a positive answer, was startled.
But Jekard, as though desperately suppressing his anger, gritted his teeth and spoke.
“I’m asking whether you brought up divorce on purpose because you wanted to protest about those filthy rumors involving the Saintess, rather than because you genuinely wanted a divorce.”
“…What? No?”
Startled by his fierce expression, Ines hurriedly tried to explain herself.
“Of course not. How could I dare do that? I’m only a fake wife, after all.”
Why was he angry?
Ines was bewildered.
“Everything I said was sincere. I wish Jekard and Elise happiness in the future. That’s why I prepared the divorce papers in advance.”
Jekard silently glared at the divorce papers in his hand. He was gripping them so tightly that the paper was badly crumpled.
“Ah, so you don’t care who I live with, and you’re telling me to live with another woman instead of you?”
“…It’s a little different from that, but if you only look at the conclusion, I suppose that is what I’m saying.”
Jekard let out a hollow laugh, as though he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Ha.”
Then Jekard raised his head and looked at Ines.
His eyes were filled with resentment and a deep sense of injustice.
…Why?
