Dohyun picked up the file and opened it.
The words “Replay Project” were written on the file.
“You are now the Head of the IP Planning Strategy Division at Kangseong Media. That is your new title. Make this project a success. If you do, I will consider letting you return.”
“Yes, sir. I will never disappoint you again, Chairman.”
“Get out. I don’t even want to look at you.”
Dohyun lightly bowed his head in greeting before leaving the room.
He loosened the tie that was choking his neck and looked toward the living room.
Miyeon was smiling brightly as she put a cherry tomato into Jinhane’s mouth.
“As expected, you’re my son. I’m so proud of you. I knew you would turn out like this.”
“Come on. It’s all thanks to Mom for always believing in me. I’ll make sure I succeed and give you a life of comfort.”
“Yes, yes. Mom has no other wish now. As long as you’re doing well.”
Dohyun looked at the scene indifferently before taking out his phone.
After two rings, Jihwan answered.
“Yes, Representative.”
“Get the car ready. I’m going to Kangseong Media.”
“……Understood.”
Dohyun hung up after giving the brief order. He straightened his tie again and walked outside.
A black foreign-made car slid to a stop in front of Dohyun.
When Jihwan opened the car door with practiced precision, Dohyun leisurely got inside.
Dohyun put on his glasses and opened the “Replay Project” file Chairman Kang had given him.
Jihwan glanced at Dohyun through the rearview mirror and asked,
“What brings you to Kangseong Media?”
“I’ve been appointed Head of the IP Planning Strategy Division. I’ll be working there from now on.”
“You say appointed, but really, it’s a dem—”
Jihwan stopped himself. Perhaps realizing his mistake, he looked at Dohyun’s expression in the rearview mirror and shut his mouth.
He got demoted, but isn’t he being way too calm about it?
Dohyun was reading through the project file as though nothing had happened.
By the time they were almost at Kangseong Media, he had finished reading the entire file.
He took off his glasses and pressed his stiff, tired eyes.
This is troublesome. I’ve never worked in this field before.
If he wanted to return as the CEO of Kangseong Electronics, simply making this project a “success” would not be enough.
He would have to achieve something beyond mere success to earn his way back.
But Dohyun had only ever worked at Kangseong Electronics, so he knew very little about this field.
Once I get back, I’ll have to recruit people with expertise in this field first. And I’ll have to replace some of the current personnel at Kangseong Media as well.
He couldn’t allow some slippery, scheming person to interfere with the project.
“How am I supposed to escape from the company?”
Sojin paced restlessly around her room, deep in thought.
She had failed to persuade Chairman Lee, so she needed to find another way.
“What if I just don’t go to work?”
That’s right! If she simply stopped showing up without permission, wouldn’t she get fired outright?
However, she soon concluded that it wasn’t a very good idea.
Not going to work would mean defying Chairman Lee’s orders.
Sojin had nowhere to go at the moment, so she couldn’t afford to fall out of Chairman Lee’s favor.
“Then maybe…… I should become an employee who’s absolutely terrible at her job?”
She could be so incompetent that they would have no choice but to fire her.
She could shred all the important documents and pretend not to understand even the most basic business terminology.

Her face naturally crumpled.

Even if this was a drama, could she really go that far……?
“No. I have enough problems of my own. Why should I worry about that?”
Following Son Yeji’s example was, in fact, the most certain way.

“Then I’ll submit my resignation letter at that point.”
Even if she was the only daughter of Shinya Group, if an employee who was bad at her job voluntarily submitted her resignation, would they really refuse to accept it?
Jihwan entered the head office.
Dohyun glanced at him before turning his attention back to the report.
There was a single résumé in Jihwan’s arms.
“Director…… there’s something you need to know.”
“Give it to me. I’ll read it slowly. Have you spoken to the HR team? Tell them there’s someone I want to recruit as the head of Planning Team 2.”
“The thing is…… they say someone has already been designated as the head of Planning Team 2. And it’s someone you know, Director.”
“What?”
Jihwan sighed and handed the résumé he had brought to Dohyun.
Dohyun accepted it. As he skimmed through it, his brows furrowed sharply.
“Lee Sojin? Don’t tell me this is the Lee Sojin I know.”
“……Yes. It’s that Lee Sojin from Shinya Group.”
Dohyun laughed incredulously.
A woman who did nothing but shop and spend her time fooling around instead of studying was joining Kangseong Media?
As the head of Planning Team 2, no less?
No matter how he looked at it, there was clearly some improper connection involved.
And it couldn’t be a coincidence that the company Sojin had joined was the very place where he had been demoted.
A cold smile appeared on Dohyun’s face.
She’s getting on my nerves.
His fiancée had subtly obstructed his path at every turn.
A woman who was nothing but a hindrance instead of a help.
An impurity he would eventually remove completely from his sight.
Chairman Kang’s words flashed through Dohyun’s mind.
“Get engaged. I hear the only daughter of Shinya Group wants to marry you.”
“……I’ve never even met her.”
“I hear the only daughter fell in love with you at first sight. It’s Shinya Group we’re talking about. Fortune is practically rolling right into our lap. Are you really going to let that opportunity slip away?”
She had suddenly claimed to have fallen for him and forced an engagement on him.
Dohyun, too, had intended to use his marriage to his advantage someday.
To him, marriage was nothing more than a means of maintaining his position.
Yet because of that woman, even the opportunity to use marriage to his advantage had been forcibly taken away from him.
Dohyun had absolutely no intention of marrying such a foolish woman.
The only reason it was difficult to break off the engagement was that Chairman Kang was extremely pleased with their union.
From Dohyun’s perspective, the best-case scenario would be for Sojin to be the one to say she wanted to break off the engagement.
A scenario with the least risk, in which he wouldn’t have to take responsibility.
Dohyun loosened his tie.
I don’t have to break off the engagement right now, but I have to stop her from coming into the company and making a mess of things.
Kangseong Media was Dohyun’s final chance. So if Sojin caused trouble, he would ultimately be the one who suffered.
Dohyun slowly began reading the résumé.
Graduated from a prestigious American university with a 4.2 GPA.
No certifications whatsoever.
No company experience whatsoever.
Graduated from a prestigious university with a 4.2 GPA?
Dohyun scoffed.
She probably bought her grades with money. I wonder if she had someone else write her thesis, too.
“Who recommended her?”
“She said it was the recommendation of the CEO.”
“Looks like he received something from the chairman of Shinya Group. Contact CEO Jung. Tell him I want to see him now.”
Dohyun stood up from his seat. He put on the suit jacket hanging on the coat rack and walked outside.
Dohyun’s expression was colder than ever.
“Di…… Director!”
Jung Jongcheol, the CEO of Kangseong Media, hurriedly stood up from his seat.
Although Jongcheol was technically the CEO, Dohyun was the person with the real power, so Jongcheol did not hesitate to bow his head to him.
Jongcheol quickly gestured toward the seat of honor.
“P-Please, sit here. What would you like to drink……?”
Dohyun sat in the seat of honor and leisurely crossed his legs. Jihwan stood beside him.
In a casual tone, Dohyun said to Jongcheol,
“Let’s just have a cup of coffee.”
“Of course! Secretary Kim, bring us some coffee.”
Secretary Kim hurriedly went out to prepare the coffee.
Jongcheol quickly sat down beside Dohyun. Restlessly, he asked,
“But what brings you here……?”
“I’ve become the head of the division, and it’s been a long time since I properly greeted CEO Jung, so I thought I’d come by.”
Jongcheol and Dohyun weren’t particularly close, but they were familiar with each other.
Chairman Kang held parties twice a year, gathering the heads of affiliated companies and partner companies closely connected to Kangseong Group.
They were partly occasions for strengthening relationships, but they also served as a way for Chairman Kang to demonstrate his influence.
The two of them would occasionally run into each other at those gatherings and exchange brief greetings.
Jongcheol secretly broke out in a cold sweat.
Dohyun probably hadn’t come merely to “say hello for a moment.”
There had to be a real reason he had come here.
