Synopsis
It was a political engagement neither of them had a choice in.
Cedric Lowell, the heir to the ducal family, absolutely hated the arrangement.
“I have no intention of marrying someone who hates me either.”
But the fiancée he met, fully prepared to hate her, was completely different from what he had expected.
A girl with indifferent green eyes spoke in an almost bored tone.
“When you become the duke, you can just send me the divorce papers.”
There were still four whole years before Cedric would come of age and officially inherit the title of Duke.
“How am I supposed to believe that? That you’ll willingly break off the engagement?”
“You’re such a child. Do you really think every noble lady in the world will admire you and follow you around just because you’re the duke’s son?”
“I’m not a child!”
“You are. A future duke shouldn’t get angry so easily.”
With a faint smile on her lips, Aileen readily extended her hand as though suggesting they shake on it.
“Let’s get along until we break off the engagement. There’s no reason for us to treat each other badly when we’re going to keep seeing each other.”
“I have no intention of getting along with you.”
Cedric would later regret more than anything the fact that, on that day, he coldly brushed Aileen Cashier’s hand away.
“You said you wanted to break off the engagement. Then why do you keep interfering in things around me?”
Even after Aileen covered up the fact that the daughter of his nanny—the girl Cedric had protected since childhood by calling her his closest friend—had nearly caused a feud between noble families, this was the thanks she received.
Aileen endured it until she finally exploded.
“I’m worried about you. I’m not jealous of that girl. I’m worried that you’re going to ruin your entire family because of one girl.”
Cedric seemed surprised by Aileen’s intensity as she revealed her fiery emotions for the first time.
“Cedric Lowell. How can you be so cruel?”
“You…”
Only after hearing Aileen’s deeply wounded voice, filled with resentment, did Cedric finally realize that he had made a terrible mistake.Of all things, she had been reincarnated as a minor villainess who obsessively pursued the second male lead—the man destined to fall hopelessly in love with the heroine.
There was hardly a more troublesome situation.
‘I’ll just break off the engagement without any trouble when the time is right.’
Aileen Cashier made the most rational decision she could.
But even she, despite being able to see the future, could not control the flow of her emotions.
That was all there was to it.
