Chapter 10
Because he had strongly inherited the blood of the current emperor, his Esper abilities were said to be astonishing. She had heard that he could use more than one ability.
Unlike ordinary Espers who could use only one special ability, Kyren was said to be able to use multiple abilities. But there was one fatal problem.
‘There isn’t a Guide compatible with that man.’
A special Esper requires a special Guide. And the First Prince hadn’t yet found a Guide capable of controlling him.
Because of that, he had tried to become engaged to Elodie, who was known as an S-Class Guide.
‘Though that engagement will soon be broken.’
He didn’t attend the welcoming banquet, and before long he broke off the engagement.
‘I know why Kyren couldn’t attend the banquet.’
However, even Anesa didn’t know the reason the engagement was later called off. Still, it was highly likely that he had realized Elodie’s rank had been exaggerated.
After briefly recalling the past, Anesa looked down at her own hand.
‘I can do it.’
She already knew from the past, when she had shared a bed with him. Their compatibility was perfect.
In fact, had Kyren not gone into a rampage after she disappeared?
If Elodie’s guiding ability was like a puddle filled with rainwater, then her own ability was like an ocean with no visible floor.
And before her regression, the first person to recognize that ability had been Damien.
‘But if Kyren realizes my ability first…’
He could become her new partner. And if it was the First Prince, it would be extremely advantageous in dealing with Damien and Elodie.
Just as Anesa’s eyes hardened with determination.
“Anesa!”
A familiar voice echoed through the room.
When she turned around, dark brown hair flashed as someone embraced her.
Elodie blinked her emerald eyes and asked,
“Are you alright? I heard the news. To think you went through something so terrible…”
Elodie trailed off, as if trying to calm her trembling emotions.
“I truly don’t deserve to be your older sister.”
Her slightly trembling voice carried sincere concern. Or at least, it sounded that way.
“…Sister.”
Elodie.
The beloved sister who killed her.
For a moment, the events of the day she died appeared before Anesa’s eyes like a hallucination.
‘The sight of her whispering words of love with my husband, Damien.’
Anesa quietly clenched her fist. Anger surged up inside her. It felt as if insects were crawling across her skin, a disgusting sensation.
She felt like slapping her across the face.
But she couldn’t do that.
‘It’s still too early before I meet Damien.’
She wouldn’t meet Damien until after she returned to the empire. Before that, she had to deal with Elodie.
Suppressing her emotions, Anesa spoke.
“…Thank you for worrying about me. I’m alright now.”
“That’s such a relief. Do you know how shocked I was when I heard about it?”
She barely managed to hold back the hollow laugh that threatened to escape at the hypocritical act.
‘You were the one who ordered them to tamper with my food, yet you’re shameless.’
The reason the maids had been able to freely tamper with the food was because the head maid had silently allowed it. Most likely it had begun under the head maid’s instructions.
And the one pulling the strings behind the head maid had been Elodie.
‘Shameless woman.’
The reason she had been isolated in this castle was entirely because of this little devil.
“I heard Father was very shocked when he learned about it as well. Well, of course he would be. The daughter he never paid attention to had been suffering such abuse. How surprising that must have been.”
She deliberately pointed out the fact that their father had never cared about Anesa. But such words could no longer hurt her.
“So, I was thinking. I hope you’ll attend the party that will be held soon. That day will be the announcement of my engagement.”
“An engagement announcement?”
Pretending not to know, Anesa tilted her head.
“Yes, my engagement to His Highness the First Prince of Altrevion. Ah, I suppose this is the first time you’re hearing about it. On such a joyful day, how could my only sister be absent?”
Hiding her suspicion, Anesa examined Elodie.
What scheme was she planning this time?
“Don’t worry about the dress, I’ll prepare everything. Marien?”
When Elodie signaled to the head maid, someone soon entered the room.
“This is my personal designer, Eliza. I asked her to make your dress for this occasion.”
With Madam Eliza’s arrival, several maids followed in a line behind her.
In their hands were all sorts of splendid dresses.
“We brought the most gorgeous ones from our boutique. They are also the most expensive.”
“……”
At Elodie’s words, Anesa shifted her gaze to the dresses the maids were holding.
The claim that they were the most splendid and valuable dresses wasn’t a lie. Each one was dazzling.
But they were all excessive. So extravagant they would make anyone uncomfortable.
‘She’s trying to make a mockery of me.’
Anesa scoffed inwardly.
She had expected that Elodie would make a move sooner or later. In the past, she had been nothing more than one of the toys Elodie played with.
‘But now, I won’t be foolish enough to let you toy with me again, Elodie.’
