Chapter 13
â
Bianca couldnât believe the scene before her.
Something extraordinary had happened to the friend in front of her, as if protecting her. A brilliant white light enveloped Ailetâs body, lifting her feet off the ground.
Her cherry-blossom-colored hair had turned into a radiant silver, and her peridot-like eyes now gleamed like molten gold.
Ailet, shrouded in a divine power so strong it made her whole body tremble, looked almost otherworldlyâlike a being not of this world.
In that state, Ailet faced a terrifying undead necromancer.
âBarrier of Mercury.â
âThis is impossible!â
âDivine Punishment.â
âUghhhh!â
âHeal.â
âEeeek!â
In an instant, the dungeonâs master turned to ashes and vanished.
âD-Did she⌠defeat it?â
The answer to Biancaâs question came in the form of the dungeonâs sudden transformation.
The red moon melted away like ice cream, darkness lifted, and a clear sky appeared.
Against the backdrop of an unbroken azure sky, Ailet turned to look at Bianca.
âAiletâŚâ
Overwhelmed, Bianca gazed up at her. The miraculous savior before her felt like the very incarnation of divine rebirth.
Then Ailet exhaled softly, releasing the divine descent.
Her body, which had been floating, gently returned to the ground, returning to her normal form.
âLetâs see⌠the rewards⌠just a passive skill and a special item each. Notoriety in the undead world? A treasure bag for tomb raiders? Iâll check them properly later.â
Picking up the old book and satchel carelessly, Ailet turned to Bianca.
âItâs all over. Time to head backâŚâ
âAi!â
âVia?â
Bianca grabbed Ailetâs hand firmly and pressed her face close, her rabbit-like red eyes shining with overwhelming emotion.
Ailet was already a precious friend she had barely made. Having faced hardship together, their bond had only deepened.
But Biancaâs excitement was about more than just that.
âAi⌠youâre a messenger of the gods! Right? Right?â
âHuh?â
âYou just defeated a baron-level demon all on your own. Someone your age wielding that much divine powerâthereâs no doubt youâre a messenger of the gods, isnât there?â
âWell⌠yeah.â
As the first disciple of the âLanguage of World-Building,â it was a perfectly logical deduction.
Biancaâs eyes glistened with tears.
âAh⌠the gods havenât abandoned this world. They sent Ai for us.â
Then, a system message appeared, visible only to Ailet.
[<System> You have converted an atheist into a believer. As the first disciple of âLanguage of World-Building,â any believer you convert automatically becomes a disciple of âLanguage of World-Building.â Your divinity increases.]
[<System> Due to the increase in âLanguage of World-Buildingâ divinity, the effects of âFavorâ and âEndearmentâ slightly increase.]
âTh-this⌠is multi-level marketing!â
Unintentionally, Ailet had stepped into a pyramid scheme.
Bianca began asking questions eagerly.
âSo, Ai, will you later join the hunting corps and raid dungeons and all that?â
âAh, yeah. I suppose⌠probablyâŚâ
Biancaâs questions made Ailet seriously consider her future path. Being trapped in an S-rank survival-level novel, she couldnât escape such a fate.
Since the protagonistâs role in this chapter had failed, it seemed likely that salvation would have to come from herself.
Meanwhile, Biancaâs eyes shone with excitement.
âI want to help too!â
âHuh?â
âI canât fight, but I can handle other things. If youâre going to travel across Serentra to hunt, youâll need a guild headquarters, right? As the next Countess Gillette, Iâll fully support you. Leave all personnel, finances, and administrative work for the hunting guild to me.â
âR-Really?â
âYes! Let me be your aide, Ai. I promise Iâll do well.â
âTh-thank you, Via.â
âIâm the one who should be thankful.â
Blushing, Bianca smiled shyly.
âYouâre my lifesaver, Ai. Truly, thank you.â
âViaâŚâ
At that moment, Ailet felt a slight dizziness, a sudden, overwhelming vertigo.
[<System> You have suffered âDivine Feverâ due to excessive use of the Divinity Skill. Sleep is recommended for recovery. Time remaining: 1 day 23 hours 59 minutes.]
âAh⌠nothing in this world comes for free.â
Her body couldnât handle another divine descent without consequence. Ailet vowed not to overuse her skills.
âVia⌠Iâll leave things in your hands.â
âNo, Ai! Donât die! We just became friendsâI canât lose you now!â
âI wonât dieâŚâ
With a soft thud, Ailet collapsed gracefully into Biancaâs arms, losing consciousness.
â
That day, chaos erupted in the Holy Nation of Elfenheim.
âSheâs here! Sheâs arrived!â
âOhhhh!â
In the Grand Cathedral of the Sacred Office, even though it wasnât a special feast day, all the cardinals had gathered. They wept tears of joy as they watched the holy light bathing the altar of prophecy.
At the center, the elderly Pope made the sign of the cross, his eyes glistening with emotion.
âAh, the altar of prophecy is responding strongly! This⌠this is surely a divine descent!â
The cardinals shouted in joy.
âJust a few weeks ago, we sensed an unusual divinity! The gods have answered our prayers!â
âIndeed, the merciful One does not abandon creation to ruin!â
âNot sending a prophecy for a hundred years was only a test of our faith!â
âFaith! We believe in the order and goodness of all things!â
Signs that the world had been forsaken by the gods were clear in Serentra: weakening divine power and long-interrupted prophecies.
Now, a divine descentârare even in historyâwas occurring. It was a grace far beyond prophecy.
In a world on the brink of destruction, salvation was more urgent than ever. Joy was only natural.
Yet some cardinals cooled the excitement with cautious words.
âWe cannot rejoice blindly. The site of this divine descent is not within Elfenheim but in the Winchester Kingdom.â
âYes. It is painful to acknowledge that the vessel of this grace is outside our holy nation.â
Though somewhat nationalistic, the statements were generally agreed upon.
âItâs strange that Winchester would hold such a vessel.â
âPerhaps a hidden power lying in a rural church?â
âIn any case, a sacred figure among unbelievers is unacceptable!â
âExactly. We must bring her to our sanctuary and elevate her as a great saint.â
âForm a search party immediately!â
Soon, the Grand Cathedral had become a council room for the nationâs leaders.
Meanwhile, on the fourth-floor balcony, other eyes stole glimpses of the divine light.
Young boys in white robes, signaling their membership in the Sacred Office, were among the special children raised to supposedly save the world.
Each bore a mark that forcibly awakened a portion of divine power.
They were not comfortable with the current scene.
âWhen did we become the âhope of the worldâ again?â
âWell, world salvation wasnât really my thing. Time to return to normal life.â
âReturn to normal? Do you think the Office will let us go?â
âNope. Even if world peace comes, weâll be used to monitor Winchester Kingdom and the Ragneif Magical Republic. They deliberately chose orphans for this and implanted the marks.â
âWow⌠makes sense. Youâre sharp, huh?â
âOr maybe youâre just dumb.â
âHmm⌠wanna fight?â
âDonât bother the weak supporter.â
The dark-haired boy shifted quickly; the blond laughed and stepped back.
After their squabble, the two boys noticed something.
âHey, why is that one so quiet⌠my eyes are going to fall out.â
Their gaze fell on a single boy with silver hair and ocean-colored eyes, angelic as in a holy painting.
He seemed completely mesmerized, as if both eyes and soul were captured by the light pouring onto the altar of prophecy.
The other boys whispered.
âHis eyes are so bright.â
âSeems like heâs receiving all of Godâs favor. Careful on that railingâit looks old.â
The silver-haired boy didnât respond. Irritated, the two boys sided together.
âHey, isnât that a jealous look?â
âYeah, proof that God favors someone else more than him.â
Finally, the silver-haired boy turned to them.
âJealousy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Donât joke about it.â
ââŚUgh. Heâs so annoying. Always spouting stuff like the cardinals.â
âHmm⌠maybe thatâs why heâs blessed by the âStrict Order and Goodness.ââ
âIf even one capable tank or healer joined, he wouldnât team up with them.â
âStill gonna stick with me?â
ââŚIâll just step aside.â
The silver-haired boy sighed quietly, touching the holy mark on his left wrist.
âItâs really inconvenient, but I canât explain.â
Still, this wasnât the important thing.
The boyâs ocean-colored eyes narrowed again toward the altar.
âStrange⌠this doesnât feel like the âStrict Order and Goodnessâ I know.â
Saint or holy figure⌠an heretic?
Rejecting the blasphemous thought, he fixed his gaze on the light once more.
âWho could it be?â
Curiosity burned like thirst in the eyes of the young protagonist, Tesilid Argent.
