Chapter 6
Supporting Eila when Rosia was present was wrong.
Thatâs what Jeratt thought, yet he couldnât shake a faint unease.
Cedric felt the same. He tried to rationalize:
âItâs fine, brother. This is for both Rosia and Eilaâs sake. Everyone needs to accept that Rosia has returned.â
âRight. Youâre correct.â
Jeratt nodded with a troubled expression.
Walking in silence, the two soon arrived at the study. Jeratt knocked first.
âCome in.â
At the permission, they entered to find Callios rubbing his temples while reviewing documents.
Jeratt cautiously broke the silence.
âIs Mother alright?â
âShe collapsed. Told me not to visit for a whileâseems furious with me.â
Calliosâs face darkened as he spoke.
âBut it couldnât be helped. As long as Eila remained, Rosia could never fully become a Blanche.â
âEila was deeply involved in household affairsâŚâ
âMany servants still followed her too. They complained she was strict, butâŚâ
Eilaâs long management of the family meant her influence wasnât negligible.
A heavy silence fell over the three men.
Cedric was the first to speak.
âSo⌠Eilaâs really gone?â
Through the window, a carriage could be seen leisurely departing the estate.
Callios sighed and nodded.
âYes. She bid farewell earlier and left with her dormitory application.â
Jeratt exhaled quietlyâthe image of Eilaâs sorrowful expression lingering in his mind.
âSheâll understand our stance someday. Once Rosia solidifies her position, Eila may return.â
âRight. She wonât last long anyway. Where could a disgraced commoner go?â
Cedric grimaced.
âAnd once her fiancĂŠ Cadin hears the news? Heâll surely demand to break off their engagement.â
Heâd always disliked Eilaâs fiancĂŠ. Now he worried Eila might seek comfort from Cadin only to be hurt again.
Seeing his younger brotherâs lingering attachment, Callios coldly interjected:
âRegardless, thatâs Eilaâs burden now. Sheâs no longer our blood.â
Both brothers flinched at their fatherâs words.
Sometimes, despite living together for over a decade, their fatherâs ruthlessness chilled them.
Even if not by blood, Eila had been family for yearsâhad he already discarded all sentiment?
âSo stop concerning yourselves with Eila. Focus on helping Rosia adapt.â
ââŚUnderstood.â
âYes, Father.â
They bowed obediently and quietly exited.
Eila reached the academy in a single day.
Thanks to the Dukeâs signed application, her dorm assignment proceeded swiftly.
Her eyes widened upon enteringâthe room exceeded all expectations in size and luxury.
âWow, itâs as nice as my old room! Typical of the elite Reiod Academyâonly the best for nobility.â
The imperial academy catered primarily to royals and aristocrats, famous for its exorbitant tuition.
Accordingly, the dormitory rivaled a mansion in grandeur, with top-tier furnishings throughout.
The Blanche family had been wrongâEila wouldnât struggle outside the ducal household.
A grin split her face.
âCompared to juggling acting gigs while living in a basement studio, this is paradise!â
She flopped onto the plush bed, sighing in bliss.
âGraduating alone guarantees success. With my novel knowledge, earning money will be easy.â
Her goal was complete independence from House Blancheâthe academy was her stepping stone.
Eila closed her eyes, organizing her priorities.
âFirst order of business.â
She needed to break off her engagement with Cadin.
The reason was simple:
âSoon, heâll send me divorce papersâthen pursue Rosia instead.â
So she resolved to strike firstâpublicly demanding the annulment before he could act.
âTerm starts in a week.â
As a swordsmanship major, Cadin should already be at the academy dormitory.
By original plot, heâd soon coincidentally meet Rosia during her transfer exams.
âThatâs when heâll plan to discard me for her.â
Eila smirked at the thought.
âIn the novel, I only sought him out after hearing rumors of the annulment.â
The heroine grovels for love from men who never loved her.
Clueless, sheâd desperately clung to Cadinâher last âremainingâ connection.
His subsequent humiliation had shattered her.
With closed eyes, the original scenes replayed vividly:
âEila, what brings you here?â
Jet-black hair like the night sky, smoldering crimson eyes like lavaâ
Even his swordsmanâs physique remained impeccably toned.
Cadin was as breathtaking as ever.
Anyone seeing him would inevitably fall in loveâjust as Eila had.
âCadin⌠are you planning to break our engagement? Now that Iâm a commoner?â
âI still love you.â
Eila exhaled in relief.
Having lost everything, at least Cadin remained.
âYes⌠youâre all I have left.â
While even family rejected her, heâd stayed.
Then the unbelievable words came:
âBut as a Marquisâs heir, I canât marry a commoner. Iâve decided to engage Rosia instead. You were nobility onceâyouâll understand.â
Eilaâs ears rang as she stared blankly.
Her chest constricted, choking her voice.
What⌠did I just hear?
Cadin reached out, toying with the necklace heâd gifted her.
âStill wearing my present, I see.â
His beauty now seemed grotesque.
âEila, how about becoming my mistress once Iâm Marquis? Not a bad deal for a commoner.â
Their friends burst into mocking laughter.
âPfftâlook at her shocked face!â
âDid she really think heâd keep the engagement?â
âHow shameless.â
Their jeers stabbed her heart. Enraged, Eila shoved Cadin away.
He merely smirked.
âBetter to have never said âI love you.ââ
Had he outright rejected her, she might have accepted it.
Instead, he shattered her completely.
Eilaâs eyes snapped open, fists clenched.
âNot this time.â
Sheâd humiliate Cadin firstâpublicly, brutallyâbefore he could betray her.
The Tragic Heroineâs script?
Sheâd burn it to ashes.
