Monster Subjugator Profile
“Hello. Ah, you want my profile?
I don’t mind, but there’s really nothing particularly remarkable about me.”
“That’s not true! Lady Vina is amazing!”
“Yua, please be quiet.”
Vina sighed softly before turning back to the interviewer.
“Now then, what would you like to know first?”
“Who does Lady Vina like?”
“Hm…”
Vina considered the question for a moment.
“If I had to choose… I suppose it would be this girl, Yua.”
“Eh…!? R-Really!?”
“Of course.”
Vina answered as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“And I love my little sister as well. Ah, though I’m not talking about Yua.”
“Hmm? My relationship with Yua?”
For the first time, Vina hesitated.
“Yua is… for now… well… s-something like a little sister to me.”
She tilted her head.
“Hm? Why do you look so disappointed? I said for now, didn’t I?”
“Ah, pardon me. Back to the topic.”
“And no, Yua isn’t my biological sister. Not biologically, at least.”
A brief pause.
“…As if I’d kidnap someone.”
“Though I’m pretty sure the Kingdom sees it as kidnapping, Lady Vina.”
“Yua, stop saying such disgraceful things under your breath.”
“Are you trying to ruin my reputation?”
Another pause.
“…Well, perhaps it’s already beyond saving.”
She let out a small sigh before glancing toward Yua.
“In any case, Yua is someone precious to me.”
Her voice softened.
“Probably the most precious person in the world right now.”
“…Ehehe.”
“Oh, that’s right!”
Vina suddenly leaned forward.
“More importantly, Mr. Interviewer, listen to this. Yua is far more impressive than I am.”
“No, no! That’s not true! Lady Vina is the amazing one!”
“Not at all.”
Vina shook her head immediately.
“After all, you’re the person with the greatest magical power in the entire country. You’re cute, you’re an excellent cook, you’re kind to everyone, you’re intelligent, and most importantly… you’re adorable.”
Her expression grew unexpectedly earnest.
“The dinner Yua made last night was wonderful. Every time I took a bite, she’d nervously ask what I thought of it.”
“It was genuinely delicious, but she still doesn’t seem very confident.”
“Eh? No, Mr. Interviewer, I’m not letting you try it.”
“That’s a privilege reserved for me.”
She nodded to herself.
“Now then, where was I?”
“Yes, yes, I’m still going.”
“Hm? You want to hear about me?”
“But why?”
“My story isn’t important right now.”
Vina folded her arms and thought.
“Let’s see… where did I leave off?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Yua’s cooking is incredible.”
“Honestly, it was the most delicious meal I’ve ever eaten.”
She smiled warmly.
“And on top of that, Yua is cute.”
“Look at her.”
“Isn’t she unbelievably cute?”
“L-Lady Vina… this is a little embarrassing…”
“That embarrassed expression is wonderful too.”
Vina nodded in satisfaction.
“Seeing her act like a normal girl is charming in its own way.”
“As for me, I’m unnecessarily tall, after all.”
She patted Yua’s head.
“This girl is—”
“Hmm? Oh, me?”
“I’m 164 centimeters tall. Honestly, I’d have preferred to be a little shorter.”
“My measurements?”
She stared blankly.
“There’s no way I’m answering that.”
“What inspired me to learn magic?”
“Nothing special. Someone in my neighborhood taught me when I was young.”
“Yua’s the same.”
“My specialty magic?”
“I don’t have one.”
“Exactly! That’s what’s truly incredible about Lady Vina!”
Yua practically jumped into the conversation.
“Lady Vina doesn’t have any strengths or weaknesses when it comes to magic! She can use every type of magic equally well!”
“And not only that—she can instantly weave spell formulas directly into a magic circle on the spot, adapting them to whatever situation she’s facing!”
“At present, only two people are known to be capable of that: the Lilifal family’s Hero, Alcatros, and Lady Vina!”
“Yua, you’re praising me too much.”
Vina waved a hand dismissively.
“Compared to Fath—”
She coughed.
“Compared to Lord Alcatros, I’m still inexperienced.”
“And besides, that’s the only thing I can do.”
“That’s not true!”
“No, it is.”
“It isn’t!”
“It is.”
“It isn’t!”
“It is.”
“Muu…”
Yua puffed out her cheeks in protest.
Vina smiled.
“Even when you’re sulking, you’re adorable.”
“Y-You don’t have to compliment me that much—”

That night.
“DON’T GIVE ME THAT BULLSHIIIIIT—!!!”
The woman who roared at the top of her lungs while draining an entire mug of beer was Miss Gremlin, public relations officer for the Monster Subjugators.
After finishing the drink in one go, she slammed the mug onto the table, let out a loud belch, and raised it overhead.
“Another one!”
The timid young waitress flinched.
“Y-Yes, right away…!”
“Whoa. You’re really going hard tonight.”
The man sitting across from her was a fellow member of the PR department and her usual drinking companion.
“What happened?”
“What happened!?”
Gremlin barked.
“What happened is that damn brat Vina!”
“Every other word out of her mouth was ‘Yua this’ and ‘Yua that!’”
“Huh. Sounds like they’re close.”
Gremlin shot him a murderous glare.
Then she grabbed the fresh beer that had just arrived, chugged it down, and slammed the empty mug onto the table again.
Vina was the girl who had wandered into town a few days earlier together with her “little sister” and then settled down there. Since commoners who could use magic were exceedingly rare, rumors had already begun spreading that she might actually be a fallen noble.
“Close doesn’t even begin to describe it!”
“They were glued together the entire time!”
“I kept telling them they were interfering with the interview, but they ignored me!”
“The whole time!”
“Every single second!”
“And then they kept doing it during the interview too!”
Gremlin shouted for more alcohol.
This time it was a cocktail.
“Because of them, I ended up working until this hour!”
“Damn it!”
“And seriously, why is a little girl like that even a Monster Subjugator!?”
“Just because she can use magic doesn’t mean you throw her in front of monsters!”
“It’s dangerous!”
She downed another drink.
“Haha. You’re really letting loose tonight.”
“Though I agree with that part.”
“Obviously!”
“You think I could put up with this sober!?”
“Still, from what I heard, she volunteered for the job herself.”
“Hah!?”
“And so what!?”
“Any normal adult would’ve stopped her!”
“The grown-ups in this town are completely useless!”
“…You realize there’s absolutely no persuasive power in hearing that from someone who’s currently acting like the poster child for irresponsible adults, right?”
“Hm?”
Gremlin narrowed her eyes.
Her coworker immediately looked away.
“Seriously, why is there nobody else in this town who can use magic!?”
“Well, that’s just how it is.”
“Magic is practically a noble’s privilege.”
“Being able to use it is the exception, not the rule.”
“Hmph. I know that already!”
“But there are magic users in other towns, aren’t there!?”
“Then bring them to Taklas!”
“That only works in towns under noble control.”
“At the very least, nobody’s coming all the way out to some remote mountain town like this.”
Gremlin clicked her tongue.
“Yeah, yeah, I know that already.”
She threw an arm around her coworker’s shoulders.
A generous amount of her chest pressed against him, startling him for half a second.
Then he remembered who it was.
The feeling vanished immediately.
With a sigh, he took another drink.
“You’re really worked up today.”
“You hated that interview that much, huh?”
“Hated it!?”
“Of course I hated it!”
“There was still so much I wanted to ask!”
She emptied another glass in one uninterrupted gulp and slammed it onto the table.
“Hey! I’m out of booze!”
“More importantly, what about you?”
“Weren’t you interviewing that piece-of-trash bastard again today?”
Gremlin yelled for another drink.
A truly obnoxious customer.
Incidentally, the “piece-of-trash bastard” she was referring to was Kankle.
“How was it?”
“It was normal.”
“Hah. What a boring answer.”
“Honestly, you always—”
And thus began Gremlin’s lengthy lecture.
Or rather, a lecture mixed liberally with complaints.
She scolded him about taking work seriously.
She scolded him about being sloppy in daily life.
One drunken sermon followed another.
Yet her coworker seemed thoroughly accustomed to it.
He let her words pass in one ear and out the other while quietly sipping his drink.
I’ll just let her vent.
She’s a pain to deal with when she’s like this.
Besides…
Alcohol after work really does taste good.
And so the days continued to pass.
