Chapter 13:
An Unexpected Encounter
“Ah, what a pity…”
The old man let out another sigh as he watched Ye Feng leave.
Only after Ye Feng’s figure had completely disappeared into the distance did the old man’s weathered eyes flicker slightly.
He remained standing there in silence, motionless, as though lost in deep thought.
Soon, Ye Feng walked out of the antique market.
He took out his phone and checked the time.
It was almost five o’clock.
Dinner time was approaching.
I wonder if Wan’er has woken up yet.
He was just wondering whether he should call his girlfriend and ask her out for dinner when his phone suddenly rang.
It was Lin Wan’er calling him first.
“Hello, Wan’er.”
The moment he answered, his voice naturally became much gentler.
“Ye Feng, where are you right now?”
Lin Wan’er’s sweet and pleasant voice came through the phone.
“I’m outside taking care of a few things. Since it’s almost dinner time, do you and Xiaoling want to go out and eat together?”
Ye Feng asked with a smile.
“Of course! I was actually about to call you.”
Lin Wan’er laughed softly. Afraid he might refuse because he was busy, her voice carried a hint of anticipation.
“Xiaoling and I just came to a restaurant and already ordered some dishes. The place looks pretty nice. It’s called Delicious House, on the second floor of Baida Plaza. Can you come over now? We’ll wait for you here.”
“Alright. Second floor of Baida Plaza, right? I’ll be there soon.”
Ye Feng nodded before ending the call.
He walked to the roadside and hailed a taxi toward Baida Plaza.
Sitting inside the taxi, Ye Feng began planning.
After dinner, he intended to buy a house first.
Then he would buy a car.
He wanted to settle the basics of daily life as soon as possible.
After all, school would start in just one week.
He had promised Wan’er that they would attend university together and never be separated.
Even though he had become a cultivator, he would never break that promise.
Halfway through the ride, his phone rang again.
This time, it was his close friend, Xu Feipeng.
They had studied together at Jinling No. 2 High School.
Xu Feipeng had always been a carefree and rebellious spirit.
Toward his friends, however, he was incredibly generous and loyal. He had helped Ye Feng more than once and always thought of him whenever something good came along.
“Hey, Feipeng! Long time no see!”
Ye Feng answered with a smile.
He suddenly realized that this friend hadn’t contacted him for over half a month, and he had even wondered if something had happened.
Then he remembered.
After graduating from high school, Xu Feipeng had decided not to continue his studies.
Instead, he had gone into business, and his startup happened to be in Jianghai City as well.
Ye Feng had already been here for several days but had completely forgotten to visit him.
The moment Xu Feipeng heard his voice, he burst into laughter.
“Haha, Fengzi! I’ve been so busy lately that I forgot to call you.”
“I’ve actually been missing you a bit.”
“Oh, right! Have you arrived in Jianghai yet?”
“I have. I’m currently in the northern district near the city center. You’re still over in the western district, right?”
Ye Feng replied with a smile.
“That’s right! I’m in the west.”
“It’s not that far away.”
“I happen to have some free time today. Tell me where you are, and I’ll come pick you up.”
“This time, I absolutely have to treat you to a good meal!”
Xu Feipeng said cheerfully.
“Uh… today?”
Ye Feng frowned slightly.
He didn’t want to refuse his good friend, but he felt awkward.
“Wan’er just invited me to dinner, and I already promised her. I can’t exactly stand her up.”
“Alright then.”
“It’s rare that you and your girlfriend get to spend some quality time together.”
“I’ll treat you another day instead.”
“But when that day comes, you can’t refuse me again!”
Xu Feipeng agreed, though there was a trace of disappointment in his voice.
Then he suddenly remembered something.
“Oh, by the way, school is starting soon, isn’t it?”
“Have you gathered enough money for tuition yet?”
“I’ll transfer ten thousand yuan to you in a minute. If it’s not enough, just let me know.”
Before Ye Feng even had the chance to refuse, Xu Feipeng quickly hung up.
Looking at the disconnected call, Ye Feng was stunned for a moment before shaking his head with a bitter smile.
This guy…
Hasn’t he already helped me enough?
Although Ye Feng had long since repaid every cent he had borrowed, he had never forgotten those acts of kindness.
Compared to some people’s own blood brothers, Xu Feipeng was far more dependable.
Ye Feng silently engraved that debt of gratitude in his heart, deciding that one day he would repay every favor.
He was not the kind of person who accepted kindness without returning it.
The taxi soon arrived at Baida Plaza.
After getting out, Ye Feng straightened his clothes and walked toward the entrance.
He entered the building and headed to the second floor.
Just as he reached the entrance of Delicious House Restaurant and was about to step inside, a clear and pleasant female voice called out from behind him.
“Huh? Ye Feng? What a coincidence! We meet again.”
Turning around, he saw Tang Yingying standing there in a white dress, smiling as she waved at him.
Apparently, she had also come shopping and had happened to run into him.
“It really is a coincidence.”
Ye Feng smiled lightly and was about to enter the restaurant when Tang Yingying quickly stepped forward and stopped him.
“Y-your injuries… are they any better?”
There was obvious concern in her voice.
She still found it hard to believe that someone could be struck by a car moving at that speed and come away completely unharmed.
It simply didn’t make sense.
Besides, she still felt deeply guilty.
If she hadn’t been driving so fast, she never would have hit him.
Ye Feng was still so young.
If he had died or been crippled because of her, not only would his family and friends have been devastated, but she herself would have carried that guilt for the rest of her life.
“I’m fine.”
“Didn’t I already tell you before?”
“Besides, you already compensated me, so the matter was settled long ago.”
“You don’t need to keep feeling guilty about it.”
Hearing him say that, Tang Yingying finally relaxed.
Her eyes drifted toward the restaurant sign.
With a gentle smile, she asked,
“Are you having dinner here?”
“Yeah.”
Ye Feng nodded.
“By yourself?”
She asked again.
“No, I’m meeting some friends.”
Ye Feng replied.
“Oh, then go ahead.”
“I won’t keep you.”
Tang Yingying smiled and turned to leave.
She hadn’t eaten dinner yet.
Originally, she had wanted to invite Ye Feng to a meal as another way of apologizing.
But after hearing that his friends were waiting for him, she gave up on the idea.
At that very moment, inside the restaurant…
At a table for four beside the glass window sat two girls.
One was sweet and gentle in appearance.
The other had a strikingly beautiful and voluptuous figure.
They were Lin Wan’er and Cheng Xiaoling.
As they sat there waiting boredly for Ye Feng to arrive, they happened to witness the scene outside—the moment when Ye Feng and Tang Yingying were chatting and smiling together.
The restaurant’s windows were specially designed.
People outside couldn’t see in.
But people inside could clearly see out.
As a result, the two girls had a perfect view of their conversation.
At first, Lin Wan’er didn’t think much of it.
She assumed it was simply an old classmate greeting him after running into him by chance.
However, Cheng Xiaoling couldn’t help adding fuel to the fire.
“Wan’er, look at that girl.”
“She’s really pretty!”
“Wow, look at what she’s wearing—all designer brands!”
“That outfit must cost at least tens of thousands of yuan!”
“Oh? And she’s smiling at Ye Feng too.”
“Don’t tell me she has feelings for him?”
Those words immediately made Lin Wan’er feel uneasy.
A trace of caution even arose toward the unfamiliar girl.
Because she rarely saw Ye Feng smile at other women.
