Chapter 09
Roses
Fu Sihuai withdrew his gaze and gave a faint hum in acknowledgment.
It was normal for a child who had just arrived in an unfamiliar environment to feel shy. Under such circumstances, eating less than usual was nothing unusual.
The cake was right in front of Qingqing, yet she didn’t dare touch it.
The pressure Fu Shu—Uncle Fu—gave off was simply too overwhelming. She was afraid of him, shrinking into herself like a timid little quail.
Fu Sihuai noticed her discomfort and softened his demeanor slightly.
“I’ll head upstairs first. Finish eating and go to bed early.”
The moment she heard he was leaving, the little girl’s eyes instantly lit up. Even in the dim light, the change was impossible to miss.
Fu Sihuai looked away, pretending not to notice.
After he left, Qingqing climbed onto the sofa and happily finished the rest of the cake. Once she was full, she quietly returned upstairs just as silently as she had come down.
Lying in the clean, soft bed, she thought about everything that had happened today, and a smile unconsciously spread across her face.
Today was her first day with the Fu family.
Her brothers were very kind to her. Although Uncle Fu was a little intimidating to be around, he was a good person too!
After replaying the day’s events in her mind, Qingqing closed her eyes in complete satisfaction.
I can’t wait for tomorrow~
Under the dim nightlight, the rose on the table bloomed even more beautifully. Moonlight fell upon it like a veil of mist, wrapping it in an ethereal glow.
It looked almost as if it had come to life, quietly absorbing the essence of the sun and moon.
The next morning.
At 7:10 a.m., Aunt Liu gently pushed open the door to Qingqing’s bedroom.
She had come to wake the little girl for breakfast, but the moment she opened the door, a rich floral fragrance rushed toward her.
Aunt Liu couldn’t help taking a deep breath.
It smelled incredible!
More than just a pleasant scent, there was something special mixed within it.
Aunt Liu wasn’t highly educated and couldn’t quite put it into words, but it made a person feel refreshed and invigorated.
One whiff seemed enough to wash away all fatigue.
She hadn’t slept well the night before, and her eyes had felt uncomfortable all morning.
She had planned to take an hour’s rest after finishing her chores, but in the few short seconds since entering the room, the soreness in her eyes had completely vanished!
Aunt Liu’s gaze landed on the vase of roses sitting on the desk, and shock filled her heart.
She had arranged those flowers herself yesterday.
She knew exactly what condition they had been in.
Yet after an entire day and night, not only had they shown no signs of wilting, they had become even more beautiful than before!
More beautiful than any rose she had ever seen.
Almost as if they were alive.
“Mmm…”
A soft, sweet little voice sounded.
Hearing the noise, the little girl on the bed slowly woke up.
“Auntie~”
Having just awakened, Qingqing’s voice carried a heavy nasal tone, soft and kitten-like, enough to melt anyone’s heart.
“You’re awake, Miss.”
Aunt Liu unconsciously lowered her voice, afraid of startling her.
The more she looked at Qingqing, the cuter she found her. A broad, affectionate smile spread across her face.
Miss is truly the kind of child who makes flowers bloom just by being around.
She helped Qingqing get dressed and accompanied her while she washed up.
By the time they came downstairs, Fu Yueci had already finished breakfast.
Taking the books and school uniform he had brought home yesterday from a servant, he was about to leave when a rich floral fragrance drifted into his nose.
As someone who had never liked scented things, he found himself stopping involuntarily.
“Big Brother~”
Qingqing ran over and carefully wrapped her arms around him in a brief hug.
“Will you only come back tonight again?”
Fu Yueci lowered his eyes.
He suddenly realized that the pleasant fragrance was coming from the little dumpling herself.
“Yeah. I’ll bring you something tasty when I get back.”
Unable to stop himself, he rubbed her fluffy little head.
The wonderful scent rubbed off onto him as well.
Fu Yueci was in an unusually good mood.
Even he didn’t know why he felt so happy.
When he saw Aunt Liu, he spoke up.
“Contact a renovation company today and redecorate Qingqing’s room. Let her choose everything according to her own preferences.”
Aunt Liu smiled and agreed.
The driver was already waiting outside.
After getting into the car, Fu Yueci discovered that at some point, he too had been stained with the floral fragrance.
Strangely enough, he thought it wasn’t bad at all.
Quite fragrant, actually.
When he arrived at school and stepped into the classroom, he immediately heard his archenemy loudly telling everyone about how he had bought a little cake the previous night.
The boy was vividly describing the cake’s shape and color.
Fu Yueci’s face darkened instantly.
He tossed his belongings aside and charged forward.
“What’s wrong with you, Huo Qi’an?!”
Before he could reach him, Huo Qi’an hopped down from a desk.
Sniffing the air, he seemed to discover something.
A mischievous grin spread across his face.
“Oh my god, Fu Yueci, you actually wear perfume to school?!”
He hid behind one of his lackeys and shouted arrogantly,
“Everyone, come look! Fu Yueci is wearing perfume!”
Huo Qi’an’s mouth was truly infuriating.
Fu Yueci was so angry that he lunged forward to punch him.
Most of the students in this class came from influential families in A City.
Their backgrounds were similar, and their parents had repeatedly told them to get along, so the atmosphere in class was generally quite friendly.
Several academically outstanding girls hurried over to break up the fight and pulled the two boys apart.
The matter ended there, and both returned to their seats.
Fu Yueci thought the incident was over.
But who would’ve guessed—
During the break, several girls gathered around him with bright smiles.
“Fu Yueci, can you send us the link to your perfume? It smells so good!”
Fu Yueci: “…”
Shen Jinxia, who sat behind him, overheard the conversation and poked him with a pen.
“Brother Ci, send me the link too. My mom loves roses. I’ll buy her a bottle.”
Fu Yueci exploded in embarrassment and irritation.
Grinding his teeth, he snapped,
“I already told you—I’M NOT WEARING PERFUME!”
“Okay, okay.”
Seeing that he was genuinely annoyed, everyone humored him.
They agreed verbally, saying he wasn’t wearing any.
But not a single person actually believed him.
Fu Yueci could tell.
That only made him feel even more depressed.
He raised his arm and sniffed his clothes.
He couldn’t smell anything at all.
What perfume?
There wasn’t any scent!
How ridiculous!
