CHAPTER 06
Cooking
Sorry this chapter is a little short.
I successfully persuaded Father to give me permission to make sweets!
Victory!
And today, Father apparently had the morning off, so I decided to make pancakes.
I had already whipped the cream, and the batter was ready.
Right now, the chefs were pacing nervously behind me, constantly hovering around.
Honestly, it was a little annoying.
I’m cooking over low heat, so everything is fine.
They were probably worried because they had been specifically ordered not to interfere.
But I had even learned how to handle fire safely from Ageha!
There was nothing to worry about.
“Sister! What are you doing?”
“I’m making pancakes.”
“Pancakes? Is that a type of cake?”
“Yes. It’s a very simple cake.”
“Would it be bad if I said I wanted some too?”
“Of course not. Just wait a little longer.”
I shaped one of the pancakes like a cat and cooked it carefully before showing it to Yardral.
“Can you tell what it is?”
“Sister! It’s a frog! It’s adorable!”
“Huh?”
“Because you once said frogs had cute eyes, I looked them up in encyclopedias and studied them a lot! Now I love frogs! I’m so happy!”
My dear little brother…
It’s a cat…
A cat.
“Y-Yes! That’s right! It’s a frog! A… frog…”
“Sister?”
“Should we melt some chocolate and draw a face on it?”
“Yes, Sister!”
Sorry.
It’s a cat.
But if you want it to be a frog, then it’s a frog.
Let’s go with that.
By the time I finished cooking all the pancakes, my older brother and Father appeared.
“That smells wonderful!”
“It certainly makes me hungry,” my brother agreed.
Proudly, I showed them the enormous stack of pancakes piled high on a serving plate.
“What is this?”
“They are pancakes! Father, shall we have a tea party?”
“That sounds like an excellent idea, my angel.”
I turned toward the chefs and smiled.
“I made quite a lot. Would it be all right if some were shared with the other servants as well?”
“Yes, Miss!”
“Of course, Miss!”
“We’d be honored, Miss!”
The chefs all answered enthusiastically.
I transferred Father’s and Brother’s portions onto separate plates.
“Cardi… did you make these yourself?”
“Yes!”
My brother immediately looked concerned.
“You used fire? What if you had burned yourself?”
Uh-oh.
Now he was worried.
“Barthemic,” Father said calmly, “our little angel will be fine.”
“But still—!”
“More importantly, let’s enjoy our tea party.”
Father came to my rescue!
Thank you, Father!
The tea party went smoothly.
Once my brother tasted the pancakes, he seemed to completely forget about the fact that I had used fire.
After that, he didn’t complain about it at all.
And so, thanks to my successful pancake tea party, my family officially approved of my cooking.
