Chapter 4
Yaoruo Little Sister, Long Time No See (1/2)
The next day was the Xie family’s welcome banquet.
The hall glittered with dazzling lights, and the elite of high society had gathered. Nearly every prominent wealthy family that mattered was present.
As soon as Xie Yurao entered, she heard guests near the entrance chatting animatedly.
“Everyone here is a big shot. The Second Young Master of the Xie family sure has an impressive reputation.”
“Of course. Even though he’s an illegitimate son, among the heirs of the conglomerate, the Second Young Master has the highest chance of inheriting it.”
Xie Yurao paused.
She had originally intended to walk past, but immediately stopped.
Without hesitation, she leaned against a pillar and openly began eavesdropping, dragging Tan Shen along with her.
Tan Shen: “…”
Someone asked curiously,
“How so?”
“Think about it. The eldest young master may be exceptionally capable, but he’s not a biological son. Who would feel comfortable handing the family fortune to an outsider?”
“As for the Second Young Master, his status may be lowly, but he’s still the family’s own flesh and blood.”
The guests all nodded in agreement.
It did make sense.
No matter how close an adopted child was, they could never quite compare to a biological one.
“What about the Xie family’s eldest daughter?” Xie Yurao asked leisurely from the side.
She was stunningly beautiful and impossible to miss. Anyone who saw her could recognize her instantly.
The guests hadn’t expected the person they were gossiping about to appear right beside them and were immediately horrified.
Only the man who had been seriously analyzing the situation remained oblivious and said disdainfully,
“A mere woman. How could it possibly be her turn?”
“…”
The scene instantly fell into an eerie silence.
His friend patted him on the shoulder.
“Brother, farewell.”
“?”
“You deserve whatever happens next.”
“??”
The man turned around and found himself face-to-face with an exquisite beauty.
A pair of fox-like eyes looked at him with a smiling gaze.
Xie Yurao smiled gently.
“Really? Then tell me, do you think it’ll be your turn?”
The man sucked in a sharp breath and nearly collapsed on the spot.
Stammering, he apologized,
“M-Miss… Eldest Miss, I’m sorry!”
Xie Yurao ignored him and turned to look at Tan Shen.
Blinking her eyes pitifully, she said,
“Tan Shen, he looks down on me.”
Tan Shen took a step forward with his long legs.
His cold eyes landed on the man as he slowly rolled up his sleeves. His voice was emotionless as he spoke.
“Choose.”
“Are you leaving on your own, or should I throw you out?”
His exposed forearm was lean and powerful, the lines of muscle and veins clearly visible.
Just one glance was enough to make the man’s legs go weak.
Stammering, he replied,
“N-No need to trouble yourself.”
“I-I can leave on my own. I’ll leave.”
Accepting his bad luck, the man dejectedly headed for the exit.
Just then, he bumped into a man standing at the entrance of the banquet hall.
“S-Second Young Master?”
At those words, all the guests immediately turned to look.
Even though the Second Young Master of the Xie family had been away for years, everyone recognized him at a glance.
After all, his appearance was far too striking.
A handsome, devilishly charming man stood at the entrance.
His unruly silver hair gave him a wild look. The collar of his shirt hung half-open, loosely revealing part of his collarbone.
The corners of his eyes were slightly raised, and his entire body radiated a lazy, seductive aura.
“The two heirs have met! They’ve met!”
Everyone present loved a good spectacle and hadn’t expected their first meeting to turn into such a dramatic confrontation.
There was no room for family affection when it came to inheritanceāespecially when one was the legitimate heir and the other an illegitimate son.
Fight!
Start fighting already!
“The Xie family’s eldest daughter has always been arrogant and domineering. She was already so angry just now. Now that she’s facing him directlyā”
Before the speaker could finish, a soft, sweet voice filled with laughter suddenly rang out.
“Hi, my dear second brother~”
Smiling brightly, Xie Yurao raised her hand and waved at the silver-haired man.
Her fox-like eyes curved into charming crescents.
“…”
Xie Jingchuan’s smiling eyes slowly settled on her face.
“Yaoruo little sister, long time no see.”
With both hands tucked into his trouser pockets, he smiled lazily.
“Did you miss your big brother?”
