Chapter 3
Xie Yurou, Aren’t You Ashamed? (2/2)
Although the eldest legitimate daughter was born into the main family line, she was still a woman and, in many people’s eyes, not enough to shoulder such a massive family enterprise alone.
As a result, Xie Zong was still undecided, hesitating over whom to support as the heir to the financial conglomerate.
Qin Yun nodded. “Of course.”
With a cold expression, she said, “Your father has only just begun entertaining that idea, and the two of them are already unable to sit still. They can’t wait for him to step down.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw her daughter lean closer with a curious look, blinking as she asked,
“Mommy, give me a little hint. How many more years can my dad live?”
Qin Yun: “…”
Clearly, this one couldn’t sit still either.
What a bunch of devoted children.
Helplessly, Qin Yun said, “What nonsense are you thinking? He has a long time yet.”
That being said, Qin Yun naturally hoped her daughter would eventually inherit the family fortune.
After all, if she had spent half her life as Madam Xie only to watch the family assets be handed over to someone else in the end, who wouldn’t go crazy?
Xie Yurou seemed to know what she was thinking.
“Don’t worry. It’s still uncertain who the inheritance will end up with.”
She had always loved Qin Yun and would never allow such a thing to happen.
Although Qin Yun regretted not having a son, her obedient daughter made up for much of that disappointment.
“Tan Shen, come here for a moment.”
Hearing Qin Yun call him, Tan Shen walked over.
“Yes, Madam.”
Qin Yun instructed him worriedly, “Pay close attention now that Xie Jingchuan has returned to the country. Don’t let him try anything against Yurou.”
Everyone in the Xie family was a crafty old fox. There were too many dirty tricks to guard against.
“Don’t worry, Madam.”
Qin Yun nodded. She trusted Tan Shen completely.
Back when Yurou had been in danger, Tan Shen had nearly lost half his life rescuing her.
But Xie Yurou suddenly said, “Not him.”
Tan Shen glanced at her but said nothing.
Qin Yun frowned slightly and hurriedly asked, “What’s wrong?”
Had something happened that she didn’t know about?
Xie Yurou huffed indignantly.
“He refused to peel lychees for me today, and then secretly ate them himself!”
Qin Yun: “…”
Tan Shen’s temples throbbed.
“…”
If he ever ate Xie Yurou’s leftovers again, he wouldn’t be Tan Shen.
Even the maids couldn’t help covering their mouths to hide their laughter.
Just a moment ago, she had been fiercely declaring her intention to seize the family fortune. The next moment, she was sulking over a few lychees.
Sometimes the young miss was childishly adorable.
Qin Yun, who was usually elegant and dignified, twitched the corner of her lips in exasperation and tapped Yurou’s forehead.
“Then eat less. They’re too sweet.”
Xie Yurou: “??”
“I’m leaving.”
Qin Yun had only stopped by in passing and had no intention of staying long.
“Oh, right. Remember to come home tomorrow night. It’s your second brother’s welcome-back banquet.”
Xie Yurou was still upset that her mother had sided with Tan Shen instead of her.
Feeling gloomy, she replied, “Oh.”
Her puffed-up cheeks were so cute that Qin Yun couldn’t resist pinching them.
“Try not to argue with Tan Shen so much. He’s the only one patient enough to indulge you.”
She knew perfectly well how spoiled her daughter was.
A bodyguard like Tan Shen—top-tier in combat skills, free of ulterior motives, and willing to risk his life to protect her—wasn’t easy to find.
Xie Yurou looked as if she had heard the funniest joke.
“Tan Shen has a good temper??”
That dog of a man was arrogant as hell.
Sometimes when she annoyed him, he would even scold her and call her by her full name, completely forgetting his place.
In short, he didn’t act like a bodyguard at all!
“Madam, I’ll see you out,” Tan Shen said.
“Mm.”
Tan Shen escorted Qin Yun out of the villa. When he returned, he saw the young miss still sulking on the sofa.
Stopping in front of her, he looked down.
“Do you want me to carry you upstairs?”
Xie Yurou shot back, “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t carry me? You even rejected me in front of my new dance partner. Do you know how embarrassing that was—”
Before she could finish, Tan Shen sighed softly. Too lazy to argue further, he simply bent down and lifted her from the sofa into his arms.
“—was?”
The man stood over six feet three inches tall. In his embrace, Xie Yurou seemed tiny and delicate.
Her aggressive attitude vanished instantly as she stared at him blankly.
Tan Shen carried her upstairs with long strides. The little fox in his arms remained silent for quite a while.
Confused, he lowered his gaze.
Suddenly, Xie Yurou buried her little head against his chest.
Her slender fingers tugged at the buttons on his shirt as she muttered in a small yet proud voice,
“Hmph. I’ll reluctantly forgive you.”
