Chapter 09
“Baby Tingshen, hurry and open the door~ My hand hurts.”
Xu Xinghe refused to stop knocking. After knocking for so long, her knuckles had already turned red.
Through the haze, Fu Tingshen vaguely heard Xingxing calling for him. She said her hand hurt. He didn’t want her hands to hurt.
Enduring the dizziness, Fu Tingshen forced himself to stand up. Following the sound, he walked to the door and raised his bloodstained hand against it.
Separated only by the door, their hands coincidentally rested on the same spot.
His Xingxing was worried about him.
Maybe… he was luckier than his father.
Until three in the morning, Fu Tingshen still hadn’t opened the door. He simply sat there with his back leaning against it. He would never allow even the slightest possibility of Xingxing getting hurt.
After finally confirming that his condition had stabilized, Fu Tingshen noticed how quiet it had become outside the door and assumed Xu Xinghe had gone back to her room to rest.
The moment the door creaked open, a figure suddenly collapsed forward.
Fu Tingshen reacted instantly, dropping to his knees as his large hands steadily caught Xu Xinghe’s face.
He hadn’t expected Xingxing to still be there. For a moment, he completely froze, until her eyes slowly opened.
“Baby finally opened the door~”
Having just woken up, Xu Xinghe’s voice sounded soft and sleepy. Her cheek lightly rubbed against his palm.
Fu Tingshen’s silent heart was beating wildly at that moment. But having grown up deprived of love, he didn’t even know the most basic way to express it.
“I… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made you wait so long.”
Fu Tingshen spoke guiltily. Although he liked that Xingxing cared about him and worried about him, seeing how exhausted she was—so tired she could barely keep her eyes open—left only heartache in his chest.
Xu Xinghe raised her face at his words.
“What a bad baby. So naughty!”
She puffed out her cheeks to show just how angry she was.
“Mm, I’m bad.”
Fu Tingshen felt even guiltier. No matter how she wanted to blame or punish him, he would accept it.
“Then what exactly did you do wrong?”
Xu Xinghe placed her hands on her hips and interrogated him. One sitting and one kneeling, the two remained there at the doorway without moving.
Fu Tingshen seriously thought about it.
“I shouldn’t have ignored you… and I made Xingxing’s hand hurt.”
“Wrong!”
Xu Xinghe interrupted him angrily. Clearly, he didn’t understand why she was upset at all.
“Fu Tingshen, you don’t care about yourself at all! You only think about me, but what about you? Did you ever think that if you got hurt, I would feel heartbroken too?”
Xu Xinghe blurted out all her feelings in one breath.
Fu Tingshen was stunned by her scolding and could only stare blankly at her with those reddened eyes.
Xu Xinghe couldn’t help sighing softly.
Why was she even angry with him? At worst, she would just spoil him more from now on.
Fu Tingshen obediently let Xu Xinghe pull him by the hand into the bathroom to wash up before leaving the messy room behind.
Even after lying beneath her blankets, Fu Tingshen still kept his eyes open, staring at her.
After washing up, Xu Xinghe wore a creamy white slip nightdress with a thin outer robe. Under the warm lighting, she practically seemed to glow.
The other side of the bed dipped slightly.
Fu Tingshen turned sideways, staring at the woman before him as though he could never look enough.
“Baby… are you a fairy?”
He had wanted to ask this for a long time, but he’d been afraid that once a fairy was discovered, she would return to the heavens.
Xu Xinghe couldn’t help laughing at his childish question.
Truthfully, she didn’t know whether she counted as a fairy either. Ever since she gained consciousness, she had always been sleeping among the stars.
But looking at Fu Tingshen’s expectant expression, she answered:
“Yes~ I’m Baby’s little fairy.”
“Mm. My little fairy. Mine.”
A satisfied smile appeared on Fu Tingshen’s face. When he smiled, he looked especially youthful, completely lacking the oppressive aura he carried when expressionless.
“Alright now.”
Xu Xinghe smiled as she raised her hand to cover his reluctant eyes. The dark circles beneath them were severe; one glance was enough to tell he hadn’t rested properly in a long time.
“Your little fairy wants you to sleep obediently and have a beautiful dream with a fairy in it~”
Her lips curved gently with warmth.
Fu Tingshen felt as though his heart had fallen into honey.
He obediently murmured an “Mm” and closed his eyes.
————————
The fairy hadn’t lied to him.
He really did dream of a fairy.
