Chapter 5: Lu Xi, It’s Your Turn to Wash Up

Lu Xi sat there without moving, her face so red it felt like it was about to drip blood.

She had never kissed a boy before. Even holding hands had only happened once, back in middle school, and when her brother-in-law found out, her sister had beaten her up.

Now she was suddenly expected to do something like this. Lu Xi just couldn’t get past that hurdle in her mind.

Besides, she had heard that the first time was painful. In novels, the men were always incredibly rough, and they would keep their wives up all night. She couldn’t handle that.

“Mr. Fu, tonight, we…”

“Hm?” Fu Nanzhou raised an eyebrow.

“Nothing.” Lu Xi quickly shook her head. She couldn’t bring herself to ask whether he meant that kind of thing on their wedding night.

“Come on. I’ll take you to your room.” A smile played at the corners of Fu Nanzhou’s lips, making his already handsome features look even more attractive.

She really was just a little girl. She blushed easily, and every little expression appeared clearly on her face. She couldn’t hide her thoughts at all.

He walked over with his long legs and went to pick up Lu Xi’s suitcase.

Lu Xi hurried over. “Mr. Fu, I’ll do it.”

But Fu Nanzhou lowered his gaze and looked at her bare feet.

Lu Xi immediately curled her toes and lowered her head. “I’m sorry. I didn’t put on any shoes.”

Fu Nanzhou took out a pair of cute women’s slippers. He knelt down on one knee in front of her and held her ankle.

Lu Xi was startled. “I can do it myself.”

Fu Nanzhou also came back to his senses. He gave a self-mocking smile. Some habits were carved into his very bones. His mind might forget, but his body didn’t.

Fu Nanzhou’s room was the master bedroom on the second floor. It faced south and was a huge two-hundred-square-meter suite. The entire southern side opened onto an enormous balcony, and the bedroom and balcony were connected, making the room exceptionally spacious and bright.

Lu Xi was amazed. The world of wealthy people really did keep changing her understanding of what was possible.

“The walk-in closet is over here. The wardrobe on the left is mine, and yours is on the right. The eight drawers in the middle are for underwear and socks. You can put your undergarments in there too.”

Lu Xi quickly waved her hands. “No, it’s fine. I can just keep everything in my suitcase.”

At her sister’s house, her clothes had always been kept in her suitcase.

When she was at school, she lived in the dormitory, and even when she returned home, she couldn’t simply leave her clothes wherever she wanted.

Every time her sister organized her clothes, Li Qian would come over and put them away.

Her sister and brother-in-law had scolded Li Qian about it many times, but every time Li Qian would say, “You two really don’t understand my good intentions. Xixi has so much schoolwork. When would she have time to tidy up? If she keeps everything in her suitcase, she can take out one outfit at a time. It doesn’t take up space, and everything stays neat.”

Later, after Guoguo was born, Li Qian became even stricter about it. So Lu Xi had gotten used to keeping her belongings in her suitcase. It was small and didn’t take up much room. Usually, she would simply slide it under the bed, where it wouldn’t bother anyone.

Fu Nanzhou stood there, amusement flickering in his eyes.

“Lu Xi, little girl, this isn’t a hotel. This is your home. You’re the lady of this house. You can put your things wherever you want.”

Lu Xi’s cheeks grew slightly warm when Fu Nanzhou called her “Lu Xi, little girl.”

And he had said that this was her home.

Even though she hadn’t paid a single cent for this place.

“Okay,” she answered softly before pushing her suitcase into the walk-in closet.

Fu Nanzhou followed her inside. He then took out a new pair of men’s underwear from a drawer, along with a silk silver-gray pajama set and a white bath towel.

After he left, Lu Xi stood in the walk-in closet. It was much larger than the room she had shared with Guoguo.

Being rich really was nice.

If only she could earn this much money someday. Then she would buy a big house where she could live by herself, and when her sister and Guoguo came to visit, they would have somewhere to stay too.

Of course, it definitely wouldn’t compare to this place. There was no way she could earn this much money.

Lu Xi hung all her clothes on the right side of the wardrobe. Even though the space was enormous, she still pushed all the hangers together so that they occupied only a tiny section. She wiped down her suitcase and placed it at the very bottom of the wardrobe.

After finishing everything, Lu Xi was a little sweaty and couldn’t help wiping her forehead.

Just then, her phone rang.

Seeing that it was her brother-in-law’s number, Lu Xi’s expression immediately tensed.

She didn’t answer.

Then her sister called as well. Lu Xi bit her lip before finally answering.

“Sis.”

“Xixi, where are you? Your sister is worried sick!” Her brother-in-law’s voice came through first.

Then Lu Yao’s anxious voice followed. “Xixi, are you really throwing a tantrum and running away from home? Do you know how worried I’ve been?”

Lu Xi lowered her head and said softly, “Sis, I’m not throwing a tantrum. From now on… I’m going to move out of your and brother-in-law’s house.”

“Where are you going to live?!” Lu Yao asked loudly.

“I have somewhere to stay.”

“You’re lying!” Lu Yao’s tone became more serious. “Xixi, I’m sorry. Don’t be stubborn. Come back quickly. You’re my only little sister. We’ve depended on each other since we were little. If anything happens to you, what am I supposed to do?”

Lu Yao’s voice had already become choked with tears.

Che Nan quickly put an arm around his wife. He rarely lost his temper with Lu Xi, but even he raised his voice now.

“Xixi, you’re not a child anymore. Seeing your sister this worried and upset, don’t you feel bad?

“If you don’t care, I do. All right, come back quickly. Give your address to your brother-in-law. It’s so late. It isn’t safe for a young woman to be out alone. I’ll come pick you up.”

Lu Xi hurriedly said, “No, brother-in-law. I’m staying at… at Yiyi’s place tonight.”

“You’re lying! You’ve stuttered whenever you lie since you were little.” Che Nan saw right through her.

Lu Xi’s face flushed. In her panic, she could only say, “I have a boyfriend. From now on, I’m going to live with my boyfriend.”

Che Nan narrowed his eyes and pushed his gold-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose.

“Xixi, your sister and I know very well whether you have a boyfriend or not. Don’t be stubborn. Tell me your address.”

Lu Xi became a little annoyed. “Brother-in-law, I really do have a boyfriend.”

“Lu Xi, listen to me. Men outside like to deceive young girls! They see that you’re sweet and soft, and think you’ll be easy to fool and manipulate. You mustn’t fall for it. A girl has to protect herself. Your sister and I have worked so hard to protect you all these years.”

Lu Xi grew increasingly irritated. She didn’t want to hear any more of her brother-in-law’s hypocritical words.

“Sis, brother-in-law, I’m not talking to you anymore. I’m fine, so don’t worry.”

She hung up.

But Lu Yao called again.

Lu Xi rejected the call, but Lu Yao called again. In the end, Lu Xi still answered.

She didn’t want her sister to keep worrying about her.

But once again, it was Che Nan’s voice on the other end.

“Xixi, listen to your brother-in-law. Tell me your address. If you really don’t want to come home, I’ll take you to an apartment owned by the company.”

Lu Xi immediately refused.

“No need, brother-in-law. From now on, you only need to take care of my sister. I have my boyfriend to take care of me.”

Che Nan was beginning to lose patience.

“Lu Xi, don’t force me to call the police and report you missing right now!”

At that moment, Fu Nanzhou had finished washing up. While drying his hair with a towel, he casually said,

“Lu Xi, it’s your turn to wash up.”

In his panic, Che Nan almost blurted out, You’re mine.

But he quickly changed his words.

“You’re my sister-in-law. As your brother-in-law, I have to make sure you’re safe.”

Lu Xi hurriedly said, “Brother-in-law, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m going to take a shower. Don’t worry, we won’t sleep together.”
