Chapter 13
A high-ranking priest known as the âwalking miracle.â
A child born with the greatest divine power in recorded history.
The fact that such a person was born not in another kingdom, but in the Aibem Empire, carried immense political significance.
His very existence proved the godâs blessing upon the empire.
Moreover, with his divine power, he could perform countless miracles.
At this level, Papier could have used his abilities to seize any position he desired.
But he didnât.
Because he was far too⌠timid to do such a thing.
âItâs embarrassing when people look at me!â
Yet, because of his extraordinary power, he drew attention wherever he went.
To Papier, that was a tragedy.
The more people gathered around him, the more introverted he became.
âItâs overwhelming⌠I want to hide⌠I just want to lock myself away somewhere and read books alone.â
So thatâs exactly what he did.
He avoided people as much as possible and shut himself away in the Grand Templeâs library, studying theology.
Because of that, despite his fame, very few people actually knew what he looked like.
However, his innate talent wouldnât leave him alone.
On the day he was appointed a high priest, skipping numerous ranks, Papierâs mind went completely blank.
With a trembling voice, he pleaded with the High Priest.
âHi-high priest? Your Grace, that position is far too much for me!â
âPapier, excessive humility is a flaw. If not you, then who else would be suited for this role?â
He wanted to cry.
But even after rising to a high position, his personality didnât change.
Once he fulfilled his duties as a high priest, he would disappear again to places where no one could find him.
Reading alone, praying alone, baking bread.
He hardly ever engaged in personal conversations with anyone.âAs expected, Iâm happiest when Iâm alone.â
That was Papierâthe high priest known as the empireâs walking miracle.
The moment Prodia heard what Papier had just said, her mind went blank.
âWhat⌠did he just say?â
A date?
The man standing before her now was definitely the same priest she had met earlier.
But then⌠why?
He smiled softly with his eyes and asked again,
âHmm? Why no answer? I said, letâs go on a date.â
Was that really something a high priest with such immense divine power should be saying?
Was he suspicious of the status window and followed her? Was he testing her?
Prodiaâs thoughts spiraled in confusion.
At that moment, the hand wrapped around her waist tightened.
Startled, she tried to pull away.
But he didnât let go easily.
âCareful.â
âPlease let go of me.â
âYou almost fell earlier. You might have hurt your ankle.â
âIâm fine.â
âShould I check to make sure?â
ââŚWhat?â
Suddenly, he lifted Prodia into his arms.
Shocked, she screamed.
âW-wait! Put me down!â
She dangled in his arms, struggling.
But he simply held her carefully and started walking somewhere.
Prodia was still in a daze.
âIs this really the same priest from earlier?â
It was like he had become a completely different person.
He set her down on top of a nearby wall and took off her shoe.
Flustered, she reached out to snatch it back.
âGive that back!âInstead of answering, he placed the shoe down and examined her foot, clicking his tongue.
âSee? Itâs swollen. That mustâve hurt.â
Prodia glanced down.
He was right.
Her ankle was red and swollen where the shoe had rubbed against it.
âItâs not a serious injury, so Iâm fine. More importantly, could you let me down now?â
âI willâif you agree to go on a date with me.â
âA date? Donât be ridiculous. I need to go back.â
But he didnât listen at all.
Instead, he gently cupped her foot in both hands.
âW-what are you doingâ!â
Before she could stop him, he lowered his head and lightly kissed her wound.
Peck.
At that moment, Prodia completely snapped.
âKYAAAH!â
She screamed and kicked him hard in the chest.
Thud!
âUgh!â
Caught off guard, he fell backward.
Crash!
âWhat the hell are you doing, you pervert?!â
Yet even as he rubbed the spot heâd been hit, he grinned.
âI disinfected it.â
âWhat?â
What nonsense.
But thenâ
âHuh?â
Her ankle didnât hurt anymore.
She looked down.
âThe wound is gone?â
The skin that had been scraped raw was now perfectly healed.
No swelling, no injury remained.
He stood back up, brushed off his clothes, and smiled brightly at her.
âDidnât think youâd hate it that much. Sorry. But it doesnât hurt anymore, right?â
But Prodia responded coldly.
ââŚWho are you?â
âHm?â
âYouâre completely different from before.â
At that, his eyes wavered slightly.
Then he slowly stood up.
âDid you meet Papier before you met me?â
ââŚWhat?â
âMy name is Luca. Whatâs yours?â
âLuca?â
Not Papier?
Though confused, Prodia answered calmly.
ââŚProdia Duser.â
âProdia. Thatâs a pretty name.â
Then he said firmly,
âAnyway, Prodia. That guy, Papier, is the fake. The real one⌠is me.â
Only then did Prodia realize his identity.
âA split personalityâŚ!â
She steadied herself and asked,
âIf I understand correctly⌠does that mean you, Luca, are the main personality?â
His eyes flickered again.
After a momentâs hesitation, his lips curled into a smile.
âThought I only liked your face, but youâre smart too.â
This was unbelievable.
The empireâs walking miracle⌠had a split personality.
And the difference between them was extreme.
The gentle herbivore she met earlier had turned intoâ
âThe lamb of the chief god has become a wolf!â
His golden eyes had turned red.
And the way he looked at herâ
Sweet⌠almost sticky.
Luca asked again,
âSo, will you go on a date with me now?â
Prodia answered bluntly,
âPriests donât date.â
âThen thereâs no problem. Iâm not a priest.â
ââŚWhat?â
âPapier is the priest. Not me.â
âThen how did you heal my injury?â
âThatâs just an ability I was born with.â
He stepped closer.
âWhy? Are you hurt somewhere else? Tell meâIâll fix it.â
âIf Luca isnât a priest⌠then does he not have divine power?â
If so, he shouldnât be able to sense the status window.
Maybe she should check.
âStatus window.â
A new window appeared.
[Name: Luca (Papier)
Occupation: None (High Priest)
Dream: None
Stats: Divine Power (restricted), Healing (SSS)⌠Charm (S)]
âThe stats are swapped!â
It seemed that as Luca, he couldnât properly use divine power, while Papier couldnât use charm.
And as expected, Luca didnât notice the status window at all.
âStatus window, next page.â
Ding!
[Quest partially completed!
You have found suitable candidates (2/?).]
âFound the second candidate.â
But Prodia hesitated.
Recruit him?
Too risky.
A beloved miracle priest entering a royal marriage contest?
Sheâd get stoned in the streets.
She made her decision.
âIâm not hurt, and Iâm not going on a date. So please let me down.â
But Luca persisted.
âDo you have a boyfriend?â
ââŚNo.â
âThen how about me?â
She was reaching her limit.
Just as she considered kicking him againâ
A purple flash burst from the ground.
âThatâŚ?â
A black magic circle appeared.
Her eyes widened.
âNo wayâŚâ
But it was.
From the violet smoke, a familiar figure emerged.
âIrtis?!â
Why was he here?!
He wasnât supposed to use magic inside the temple!
And more importantlyâ
âWasnât he in the middle of the oath ceremony?!â
Luca, still focused on Prodia, didnât notice.
âCome on, just go out with me onceââ
Before he could finishâ
Irtis shot forward like lightning.
Only then did Luca turn.
âWho areââ
But instead of answeringâ
Irtis threw a powerful punch straight at Lucaâs face.
