Su Li had just stepped out of the company when Mo Xingyuan called her.
Seeing the incoming call, she smiled and answered.
“Missing me?”
“…”
The person on the other end seemed caught off guard by her words, as if tempted to hang up.
“I’m not going back tonight.”
Su Li walked a few steps, stopping in surprise. “Are you… reporting to me?”
“…”
She was in a very good mood, her smile bright. “Mm, I’m not going back either.”

She could feel Mo Xingyuan’s urge to hang up at any moment. Su Li quickly explained, “Lu Jing is going back to her hometown tomorrow, so I’m having dinner with her tonight, and then I’ll sleep over.”
Not hearing him respond, she asked, “And you? Where are you going? Meeting someone?”
“You’re asking too much.”
“As your wife, it’s my duty to ask in situations like this. It’s only proper,” Su Li said. A car had arrived, and she got in, giving the driver the address.
“I’ve got things to do.” Mo Xingyuan couldn’t possibly tell her everything.
Su Li was just asking; she didn’t expect him to give a detailed report.
“Alright then.”
“Bye.”
When Mo Xingyuan said “bye,” he actually hung up, giving Su Li no chance to continue the conversation.
She was used to it.
Just getting a call like this from him was already rare.

Lu Jing’s flight was early the next morning. Su Li stayed home to cook and also took the opportunity to tidy up.
“I thought there’d be a big meal, but it’s just a small bowl of noodles,” Su Li said, adding vinegar to her noodles, a little dissatisfied.
“I’m not in the mood to cook a feast. Make do with what’s here,” Lu Jing added plenty of chili to her noodles.
Su Li ate, “It’s still several days before the New Year. Why are you going back so early?”
“My mom wants me to go back for matchmaking.”
“Ah?” Su Li’s mouth was full of noodles, her expression one of disbelief.
Lu Jing looked at her and snorted lightly. “She’s afraid I won’t get married.”
“Impossible!” Su Li couldn’t understand. “You’re in such a good position; why would you go on matchmaking dates casually? What kind of person could she even pick for you?”
“If I don’t go to please her, she won’t let it go. Every holiday, she pushes me to return. I’ve gone on many dates… each one worse than the last…” Lu Jing shook her head, not even wanting to elaborate.
“Find someone yourself,” Su Li said. “If you’re dating someone, she’ll feel reassured.”
Lu Jing shook her head. “She won’t accept me dating someone outside. She says only someone from a matchmaking date knows my background well.”
“…” Just hearing that made Su Li restless.
“Doesn’t matter, let the dates happen. I’m not going to date anyone. If she doesn’t accept outsiders, fine. I’ll just stay single for life.” Lu Jing wasn’t opposed to the matchmaking, but she absolutely wouldn’t accept anyone.
Su Li sighed.
The next morning, Su Li took Lu Jing to the airport.
They hugged. “Come back early, okay?”
“I’ll be back after the dates.”
“That’s fine.” Su Li smiled. “As long as you don’t get married during the dates, everything’s fine.”
Lu Jing scoffed. “Absolutely not.”
After passing security, Su Li turned only when she could no longer see her friend.
She glanced up and, casually, saw a familiar figure heading toward the VIP channel.
Quickly, she pulled out her phone to call. It took a while before the call was answered.
“Hello?”
“Where are you?” Su Li had no doubt she had seen correctly.
“At the airport.”
Just as she thought.
“Business trip?” she asked.
“Some matters. Going abroad.”
Su Li was surprised.
His health was so fragile—why did he need to go abroad?
“May I ask what for?”
“No.”
“…” Su Li exhaled in relief. “When will you be back?”
“Not sure.”
“Oh.”
“Anything else?”
“No.”
“Bye.”
And just like that, the call ended.
She couldn’t deny her curiosity, but mostly, she was worried about his health. Traveling abroad would mean hours on a plane—could he even manage it?
