Chapter 21
Yu Jin also interjected, “Your son needs money to survive, so my son doesn’t?” Even the grandmother and stepmother started physically tugging at each other. In short, neither side was willing to back down.
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time the Yu family had caused such a scene in the hospital, as many of the medical staff were giving them looks of disdain.
I felt extremely embarrassed, wishing I could dig a hole and disappear into it.
The argument continued. The grandmother stubbornly insisted that it was Yu family money and that she must get it back at all costs. The uncomfortable situation, combined with her words, pushed my anger to its peak.
Her savings, the money she borrowed, and whatever the “old Yu family” had — what did any of that have to do with me?
Seeing me, the grandmother spoke with a hint of coercion: “Meng Yanshuang, go get the money back! Don’t let her get away with it!”
Yu Jin urged, “Her son is a precious child, and my son is a precious child too! Go get the money back!”
Looking at the disgusting faces of the Yu family, I felt waves of nausea.
Sure enough, the calmness from a few days ago was nothing but an illusion — this was their true nature.
I couldn’t help but sarcastically say, “Aren’t you the one benefiting? Since when did my money become Yu family’s money?”
“What’s wrong with me borrowing my own money? What gives you the right to make a scene?”
Yu Jin immediately lost his temper and yelled, “Meng Yanshuang, what do you mean? I’m only doing this for my son’s sake, and you… you take advantage of the Yu family, use the Yu family, even live with the Yu family, and what do you do in return? Push us away!”
I was furious. Apparently, Yu Jin really saw things that way. “I haven’t used a single cent from your Yu family. But how much of my money have you used? Did I ever ask for it back?”
Which man would want to be told he’s living off a woman? Yu Jin certainly didn’t.
He got so angry at my words that he went completely mad and swung his arm, trying to hit me.
The stepmother, probably feeling a bit guilty for taking my money, shouted urgently, “Child! Child! If something happens to the child, it’s because of your hand!”
Her words made Yu Jin stop, but the murderous look in his eyes sent a chill down my spine.
Yet I didn’t expect that, even after I had spoken so clearly, the grandmother still wouldn’t relent.
“Since you married into our Yu family, you are part of our family. And now that you are carrying the flesh and blood of our Yu family, you should think about our family’s well-being! Not to mention, you even use the name of the old Yu family to borrow money for your Meng family brat.”
Her words ignited my last shred of reason: “I borrowed money in my own name — what does that have to do with your Yu family? Since I haven’t taken a single cent from your family, no one has the right to say anything about this money!”
“Meng Yanshuang! The child in your belly is the flesh and blood of our old Yu family!”
I sneered. At this moment, it didn’t matter whether the child in my belly was Yu’s or not. Even if I terminated this pregnancy, the Yu family wouldn’t benefit. And even if I got the money back, it would probably end up in the Yu family’s pocket.
“No money? Fine. Then we won’t continue this life together — either divorce!”
I didn’t expect that as soon as I said this, the grandmother exploded. Pointing at me, she yelled, “You Meng Yanshuang! Even if you want a divorce from my son now, you still have to return the betrothal money! I don’t believe that your poor Meng family can even come up with that money!”
I didn’t expect her to bring up the betrothal money again. I was furious, clutching the blanket so tightly that my fingers hurt.
“Fine!”
I was so angry I laughed. I rolled over, pulled a few photographs from my pocket, and slammed them down at the foot of the bed with a sharp smack
