Chapter 37: Princess, You Need to Step Up
[Xiao Zhanâs affection increased to 66. Congratulations, Host has received a medical kit. Reminder: the Host hasnât checked in yet.]
Loloâs eyes lit up with delight, and she hurriedly went to check in.
[Ding! Check-in successful. Youâve received a bottle of Fetal Protection Pills.]
Lolo frowned: âWhat the heck is this? No thanks.â
The system didnât care whether she wanted it or not: âAll rewards are random.â
Lolo sighed and decided to keep it for nowâit could be given to someone else later.
She reached out and untied the floral cloth wrapped around Xiao Zhanâs head. Seeing his slightly pained expression, she explained, âIâll put on some medicine for you.â
Compared to herbal remedies, Yunnan medicine and band-aids were much more practical.
After Lolo applied the medicine and plastered a band-aid on his face, Xiao Zhan touched it and smiled happily. âMy Mistress treats me so well.â
He even discreetly showed off to Chi Yao: âMy Mistress put this on me. Do you have one?â
Chi Yao refused to be outdone. âOuch! That hurts!â
He exaggeratedly held up his hand and planted it in front of Lolo. âMistress, Iâm hurt!â
Lolo widened her eyes. Upon inspection, she could only find a tiny scratchâa thin line that hadnât even bled.
Chi Yaoâs drama warranted a band-aid too, so she applied one without hesitation.
âDonât worry.â
If she had noticed it a little later, the wound would have already healed.
AâCang felt he should do something too. He held out his small hand for Lolo to see.
âThereâs a thorn.â
Lolo carefully removed it and, as a bonus, gave him a band-aid.
AâCang smiled to himselfâif they had something, he had it too.
Hunting became much easier once they left the Wild Island.
With a face full of band-aids, Xiao Zhan quickly took down a wild boar and dragged it back.
Lolo casually picked several large cabbages along the way. âLetâs go back.â
She felt a bit reluctant to leaveâthis place was beautiful, with clear mountains, fresh water, and big, high-quality vegetables, untouched by anyone. If they werenât in a hurry, she would have camped here and fenced in the cabbages.
âMaya, Iâm back.â
Lolo waved from afar, glancing at Ziyeâgood, he still had some energy left.
AâCang imitated her, calling out: âFather, brother, Iâm back!â
Ziye silently nodded without speaking. AâJin turned away, not looking at him.
He couldnât understand why his younger brother was so attached to the âevil mistressââthey seemed unusually close.
Strangely, he felt a little panicked.
âTonight weâre having cabbage and meat dumplings.â Lolo took out some flour and began kneading dough in a stone pot.
Maya looked on curiously. âCan you eat this white powder?â
âHmm, youâll see once itâs made,â Lolo replied.
Chi Yao and Xiao Zhan assisted her.
âItâs really delicious. Youâve never had it, right?â
âThis is called flour. You can make noodles with it.â
They didnât know what dumplings were, but if Lolo said they were good, then they must be delicious.
Maya felt a little neglected by the two idiots.
She glanced at Ziye, who had a faint smile on his lips.
Maya held her forehead. Greatâthis fool was laughing at her too.
Wasnât the outside world supposed to be so advanced now?
Everything felt so unfamiliar. Wasnât the Cat Clan tribe supposed to be the most prosperous?
And what was this âflourâ? She had never heard of it.
âPrincess, letâs just eat meat,â she suggested.
Dumplings seemed complicated, and after a long while, they still werenât done.
Lolo had already chopped the meat, prepared the filling, and rolled out the dumpling wrappers.
Only the wrapping remained.
âItâll be quick,â Lolo reassured her.
Chi Yao had become adept at starting fires, but just as the flames rose, Maya kicked over the pot.
âPrincess, danger!â
She held a knife defensively in front of Lolo, eyes vigilant.
Lolo laughed. âItâs okay, itâs okay. You need fire to cookâthis fire wonât hurt anyone, donât be afraid.â
Maya relaxed slightly, realizing once again how little others cared about her.
She put away her knife, her eyes less mocking.
She felt like she didnât belong in this world, but the three fools didnât even fear the fire.
Maya stood at a distance while Chi Yao refilled the water, arranged the firewood, and started the fire again.
As the water bubbled, Lolo dropped in the dumplings along with some thistle leaves.
She brought out bowls and dishes, prepared the condiments, and soon the piping hot dumplings were ready.
Without a slotted spoon, Lolo scooped the dumplings with bowls, giving everyone a large serving of sour soup dumplings.
Maya stared in disbelief. âWe can really eat this?â
Lolo patiently explained, âFlour comes from a plant. Itâs edible.â
âPrincess⊠sniff⊠have you been eating grass the whole time outside?â
Maya covered her face, unable to hold back her tears.
The poor princessâhow could she not get thin after eating only grass while out in the wild?
Lolo didnât know how to explain. She wasnât against eating meatâshe just didnât eat it raw.
AâCang held his bowl and expertly picked up chopsticks, handing them out.
He squatted down and popped a dumpling into his mouth.
âItâs hot!â After swallowing, his eyes sparkled. âSo delicious! Father, you eat!â
AâJin helped Ziye sit up, and Lolo squatted down to feed him a dumpling.
Ziyeâs Adamâs apple moved as he said, âHot.â
âThen let it cool a little.â
âWhy arenât you burning to death!â Maya stood up, hands on her hips, scolding, âDonât you have hands? And you let the princess feed you like youâre the master?â
Then she turned to scold Lolo, frustrated: âPrincess, you need to step up!â
Donât let a few filthy males take advantage of you.
After scolding, she knelt again to apologize. âForgive me, Princess, I justâŠâ
Lolo helped her up. âItâs okay. I know. You just canât stand seeing me suffer a bit.â
âBut between a couple, we should support each other. Ziye got hurt, and itâs right for me to feed him.â
âThen⊠what about those two?â Maya pointed at Chi Yao and Xiao Zhan.
They were strong as oxen, yet still had bandages on hands and faces, pretending to be seriously injured.
These males loved to play tricks.
Lolo explained, âXiao Zhan got hit in the face by you, and Chi Yao got pricked while picking vegetables.â
Maya scoffed: âTwo useless ones.â
One couldnât take a hit, the other was ridiculous.
Pricked just picking vegetables? Was he a porcelain doll?
âEat before it gets cold,â Lolo said, handing her a bowl.
Maya looked at the chopsticks, frowningâshe didnât know how to use them.
âHere, Iâll teach you,â Lolo said, noticing her awkwardness, and fed her a dumpling.
âIs it good?â she asked.
Maya bit into it. The rich aroma of meat mixed with the fresh taste of cabbage filled her mouth.
Deliciousâutterly delicious.
âThe princess fed it, and itâs delicious,â she said, eyes sparkling.
The princess is truly the bestâthose stupid males donât even compare.
Sensing a threat, Xiao Zhan jumped in first. âMistress, I donât know how to use these chopsticks.â
Chi Yao eagerly came over to help.
Seeing Lolo pick up a dumpling and feed it to Xiao Zhan, he immediately threw down his chopsticks, pretending he didnât understand them either.
Opening his mouth, he went into âfeed meâ mode.
Maya frowned. âYou idiots, so stupid.â
She had already learned, but they were pretending.
âCough, cough.â Ziye cleared his throat. âMy chest hurts.â
