Chapter 31 – I Want to Make Her My Wife Right Now (Leo’s POV)

“Sibel.”

“Oh, Leo-san.”

When I peeked into my room — the door was already open — I saw Sibel diligently scrubbing the floor.

With her bare hands.

“I’m sorry. You’re supposed to have the afternoon off, aren’t you?”
“It’s fine! This much is nothing.”

As I stepped inside and spoke to her, she looked up at me and smiled brightly.

That smile — that warm, honest smile — made my chest tighten.

She really didn’t look like she disliked it at all. Even before I spoke to her, she was just quietly and earnestly cleaning the floor.

What a good girl…
Cleaning floors can’t be fun, and yet here she is, working so hard and still smiling.

She’s so pure… and so adorable.

“…Leo-san?”

I felt my heart being squeezed, as if something deep inside me was being pulled.

Before I realized it, I had crouched down in front of her and gently placed my hand over hers as she was scrubbing the floor.

“Thank you, Sibel. The water must be cold, right?”

There was a bucket nearby, filled with water. Her hands were freezing, and her fingertips slightly red.

“It’s all right. Really. More importantly, if this can help you and the other knights relax after working so hard every day, then I’m happy.”

“Sibel…”

…What an angelic girl.

How can someone this good exist!? No—there isn’t anyone else like her!

The sparkle in her smiling face wasn’t a lie. It was real.

And when I think about everything she’s been through—
the cruel treatment, the awful words she must’ve endured—
I can hardly keep the tears back.

Yet even after all that, she can still smile so innocently…

It moves me deeply.

How could I not find her precious?

“I just want you to rest and be happy, too, Sibel.”
“Oh my…”

I mean it from the bottom of my heart.

If I could, I’d make her my wife right now.

I don’t want her working in this dorm full of rough men anymore.
I want to take her somewhere safe—
somewhere peaceful—
and let her live the comfortable life she deserves.

I want her to eat the things she loves, do what makes her happy, and live freely.

…but what can I do for her, really?

“Thank you. Those words alone make me feel so healed.”

And with that same bright, gentle smile, she looked up at me again—
and my heart was completely captured.

Ugh… she’s too cute!

“Say, Sibel—are there any foods you’re craving?”
“Eh?”

Sibel always eats so happily.
Maybe it’s because she didn’t often get to enjoy good food in the past.

That’s why I want her to eat as much as she likes now.

“I’m always grateful for the delicious meals here.”
“Of course, but still—what do you like best? Do you have a sweet tooth?”
“Hmm? I like everything, but yes, I do like sweets.”
“I see.”

All right.
Next time I go to town, I’ll buy her some cake.

Yoti mentioned a new bakery opened recently. I’ll get one from there.

“Have you had lunch yet today?”
“Not yet, but I was about to.”
“Then that’s enough cleaning for now. Let’s eat together. Today’s lunch is short pasta in tomato sauce.”
“Yes.”

As we both stood up and started walking toward the door—me carrying the bucket—
Sibel suddenly said, “Ah…” softly behind me.

When I turned, she had picked up a white piece of cloth that had been tossed carelessly on the bed.

“This is laundry, right? I’ll take it out to be washed.”
“Oh, sorry—”

Ah, right. I must’ve left what I changed out of this morning lying there.
I’d completely forgotten today was the day for room cleaning.

“But that’s fine, I’ll carry it.”

She had picked up the shirt I wore to bed.
I must’ve sweated in it, and it felt awkward to let her handle something like that.

So I set down the bucket for a moment and reached out to take it from her—

—but something small fell to the floor with a soft plop.

“…?”
“Ah…”

The moment I looked down, I realized what it was.

“Something fell.”
“…!!”

Before I could stop her, Sibel bent down to pick it up.

“I’ve got it—don’t worry!”
“Eh?”
“Come on, let’s go. I’ll carry that too.”
“Oh—”

That thing that fell just now—
was absolutely, without a doubt, my underwear.

Thank goodness she didn’t realize it…

I quickly gathered up the rest of the laundry, grabbed the bucket, and turned toward the door, making sure she couldn’t see my face — which was probably burning bright red.

Then we finally left the room together.

If Sibel had realized what it was, things would’ve been a complete disaster…!

The author’s note:
If Sibel had noticed what fell, it would’ve been a huge problem…! 😂

Also, all of your comments guessing what Sibel was doing had me laughing and nodding like, “Yes, that’s exactly it!” ( *´艸` )

Someday, I really want to write that scene in full!

Next time, it’s Sibel’s side!

I’ve never told anyone this before, but I absolutely love strong, muscular knights! The prince was so skinny and not attractive at all, and my stepmother treated me terribly, so I have no regrets about leaving. So yes, I’ll gladly go to the frontier! To the knights’ dormitory! The food here is delicious, the knights are kind, cool, and amazing—I’m so happy. But it’s strange. Ever since I came, the monsters have become quieter, and everyone seems to feel better after eating my cooking. …Revenge? No need for that. Because right now, I’m perfectly happy! A romantic comedy about a cheerful, kindhearted saint who loves knights but doesn’t notice the knight commander’s affection, and the commander who, while misunderstanding her, devotedly loves her all the same.
