Chapter 29Â
My Stepsister Makes a Declaration
After walking Kanashizuku home and returning to my house, I was greeted by Yumi, who looked a little displeased.
âWelcome back, Onii-chan. Since you came home around this time after walking, I guess you didnât do anything weird with Kanashizuku-san.â
âHaa⊠Thereâs no way something like that would ever happen between me and Kanashizuku.â
I sighed as I replied and stepped into the house, and Yumi said,
âOnii-chan, I still havenât forgiven you for lying to me â for saying you werenât seeing another girl when you actually were.â
ââŠI see.â
ââBut.â
With that, Yumi added in a brighter tone,
âBecause I found out you actually were with another girl, I realized something â that I really, really hate the idea of you being taken by someone else. It made me realize all over again that I truly love you, Onii-chan. Thatâs why, no matter what, I wonât give you to anyone. Iâll definitely be the one to marry you!â
Seeing Yumi so cheerful and assertive, I couldnât help but respond in a lighter tone myself.
âMarriage, huh⊠Iâve thought this before, but youâre not even talking about dating or becoming lovers first â you go straight to marriage.â
âWell, since weâre going to do everything eventually, itâs more fun to talk about the final step first!â
âWeâre siblings, so thatâs not going to happen.â
As I said that, Yumi hugged me tightly and whispered,
âThen Iâll just have to make you see me as so irresistible that you canât say that anymoreâŠâ
âŠYumi really doesnât understand.
From the first day we met, Iâve already found her incredibly attractive.
Iâve said this many times before â Yumi is exactly my type in every possible way. That hasnât changed since we met a year ago.
And now, that exact type of person lives under the same roof as me â as my stepsister.
I had my share of inner struggles, but even so, I made a vow in my heart that for the sake of Yumi, who has no family left, I would always remain her brother and nothing else.
Thatâs one thing Iâll never give up on.
As Yumi held me, I reaffirmed that resolve â until she spoke again in a calm voice right by my ear.
âHey, Onii-chan⊠earlier, when I said âLooks like you didnât do anything weird with Kanashizuku-san,â you looked exasperated and said, âThereâs no way something like that would happen between me and her,â right?â
âI did say that⊠what about it?â
âPeople change, you know. Relationships can change too. And even if they do, I donât think thatâs necessarily a bad thing⊠Of course, that doesnât just apply to Kanashizuku-san â it applies to me too.â
After saying that, Yumi released me from her embrace.
People and relationships change â and even if they do, thatâs not a bad thing⊠Maybe sheâs right, but still, Iâ
âAnyway, Onii-chan! Since Kanashizuku-sanâs gone home, how about we take a bath together now, just the two of us?â
My train of thought was completely derailed by Yumiâs sudden remark.
âHaa!? Of course not!â
âOh, since Kanashizuku-sanâs gone, we donât need to bother with towels anymore, right? Just the two of us siblings, nice and close!â
âDonât just assume weâre taking a bath together! And even if we did â which weâre not â of course weâd still use towels!â
âThen how about we take one with towels?â
âI said if we did! But weâre not! Weâre not taking a bath together â last night was an exception!â
âEhh~ Then Iâll settle for sleeping together instead!â
âThatâs not allowed either!â
After that, I had no time for deep thoughts â all my energy went into dodging Yumiâs constant attempts to either take a bath or sleep together with me.
But just before falling asleep, one thought crossed my mind.
âIs it really okay for things to stay like this?
ââŠâ
I almost started thinking too deeply about it, but for now, I decided to prioritize sleep and drifted off into slumber.
