Chapter 50…
The True Culprit.
The same poison used in the attempted poisoning of Felicia was traced back to an underground organization in the Chalcedony Empire, which had supplied it to a certain noble of that country. The maid who took her own life with the poison had no parents and left behind a young brother — a boy who, after the incident, was admitted into a boarding school in Chalcedony. Furthermore, the count Felicia was once supposed to marry had given his daughter in marriage to that same noble suspected of purchasing the poison, meaning they were related by family ties…
“It’s certain that the noble from the Chalcedony Empire was involved in the case. The remaining question is why he targeted Felicia. It’s reasonable to think that someone from Rubellite might have hired him…”
Yoan paused and turned his gaze toward Christoph, as if to say, You already have an idea, don’t you?
Christoph lifted his head, as though having made up his mind, and looked straight at Yoan before speaking.
“Yes. I also came to believe that someone from our own country tried to eliminate Felicia. And the only person I could think of who might harbor such thoughts… was my wife, Yvette.”
It was something Felicia had half-suspected herself, but hearing her father name her stepmother as the likely culprit still struck her hard. She bit her lip tightly.
Yoan looked at her with concern.
“Felicia, are you all right?”
“Yes. I’m fine. I was prepared for this.”
She wanted to uncover the truth — to clear her brother’s regrets. That was her own decision. Felicia steeled herself; Yoan, her father, and Alexis had all gathered here because of that determination.
“If Mother-in-law truly is the mastermind, then we must gather solid evidence and make sure she answers for her crimes.”
At Felicia’s resolute words, everyone’s expressions tightened, and they nodded firmly.
