(Irisâs point of view)
By evening, when the sky above the royal capital was gently tinged with color, we returned to the estate.
Stopping once in the entrance hall, I adjusted the review sheet in my hands.
âTodayâs summary:
Walking pace â moderate to slow.
Conversation temperature â warm.
Sunlit time â twenty-five minutes.
Self-declared cuteness â âa little cute.â
Overall evaluation isââ
âOverall evaluation? Thereâs such a thing?â
ââClear skies.â Our engagement is under clear skies, and the observation of the heart has begun.â
Lord Roland laughed like a boy.
âWhenâs the next observation?â
âSunday. In my laboratory â weâll make a prototype of the Happiness Index. Itâll be during a time when the sunlight comes in nicely.â
âGot it. Then Iâll prepare clothes that match the sunshine.â
âHow cute.â
ââŠAhâ Iris, thatâs a direct hit.â
I couldnât help but burst out laughing.
Our laughter softly echoed against the decorations on the ceiling.
Then came a brief silence â sweet and gentle.

I found myself wanting to know his feelings, and that confused me just a little.
But confusion isnât a bad thing. It just means thereâs more to observe.
âIâm looking forward to Sunday.â
âYeah. Me too.â
We began walking toward the sunlight.
On the last line of the review sheet â âself-declared cutenessâ â his handwriting still said only âa little.â
Into that blank space, the sunlight slowly filled in.
âOur engagement is clear skies.
The real observation begins now.
