“Is it… all settled now?”
I looked at Stephan and Raiga’s faces as I asked.
The two of them exchanged glances, then nodded in agreement.
“What’s going to happen to that man?”
I looked toward the middle-aged man tied up with ropes behind his back.
Was selling a dragon egg really that bad of a thing to do…?
“We’ll take him to the Adventurer’s Guild. There isn’t one in the Kiara Kingdom… so we’ll probably hand him over once we reach the Markov Kingdom.”
Stephan answered, then glanced at Raiga, who nodded and said, “Yeah.”
The Markov Kingdom—
That was the neighboring country down this very road, right next to the Kiara Kingdom.
It was also my temporary destination.
Oh… so they’re heading to the same place as me.
“By the way, didn’t you say you were the Saint of the Grand Temple in the Kiara Kingdom?”
Stephan asked, studying me curiously.
“‘Former’ Saint,” I corrected him. “The Crown Prince told me to leave the country, so the soldiers were escorting me to the neighboring kingdom.”
I said that and turned back to look at the soldiers.
And then—
“L-Lady Saint… our strength… it’s leaving our bodies…”
The soldiers had collapsed to the ground, too weak to move.
Even the horses that had pulled my carriage had folded their legs beneath them, resting where they stood.
“M-my whole body aches…”
A chill ran straight down my spine.
Wait… could this be because I prayed for strength so they wouldn’t get tired, and we ended up covering a three-day journey in just one day?
“I-I’m so sorry!”
I quickly clasped my hands together and began chanting a prayer again.
“From here on, I’ll travel on my own. Please, everyone, return home safely… O Goddess, I beseech you—”
A gentle light drifted down over the soldiers, and one by one, they began to stand again.
“Ah, I’m feeling better already. I’ll be fine now.”
I shook my head frantically.
“Really, it’s fine. It’s only temporary, so please just go home and get some rest, okay?”
“But, Lady Saint…”
“No, really—it’s okay.”
While I was going back and forth with the soldiers, Stephan stepped forward and said,
“If it’s just as far as the Markov Kingdom, we’ll escort her there ourselves.”
—Ah… what a good person.
Stephan really is such a kind man—
